Position Summary: Assists with the daily operations of the Youth Programs Department, Palm Beach County Quality Improvement System (QIS) standards, S.T.E.A.M. curriculum and lesson plans, Council on Accreditation (COA) national requirements, Palm Beach County Health Department and grant requirements, supervision, care, transportation, and counseling of participants in the Out-of-School Time Programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (The duties listed are intended to serve as an example of the typical functions performed. They are not exclusive or all-inclusive and will vary with assignments.)
  • Ensures national accreditation standards with the Council on Accreditation (COA) and the Palm Beach County Quality Improvement System (QIS) standards are consistently met.
  • Actively participates in the annual QIS monitoring process.
  • Trains Youth Development Leaders, Youth Development Assistants, and Camp Counselors on the national accreditation process, COA fundamental requirements and criteria.
  • Trains Youth Development Leaders, Youth Development Assistants and Camp Counselors on the QIS standards and monitoring criteria and progress.
  • Observes QIS lesson plan implementation, classroom management techniques, and staff interaction and engagement with children, and provides written observation reports to program supervisor daily.
  • Assists with employee development, required employee training hours, and DCF transcripts and certification records, and ensures contractual and health department licensing requirements are met.
  • Assists with front desk coverage.
  • Assist with field trip and ELO planning.
  • Assist with the weekly staffing pattern and ensures ratios are maintained.
  • Performs general/clerical tasks, which may include answering telephone calls, providing information to visitors, coordinating meetings, typing documents, making copies, sending/receiving faxes, or filing documentation.
  • Assists with receiving, tracking and entering all incoming registration forms as applicable.
  • Ensures the scanning of electronic files and documents, is done in accordance with Florida State Statutes for records retention.
  • Maintains accurate attendance records, discipline forms, accident reports, medication log, and other required paperwork.
  • Assist with proper opening and closing procedures, as well as the safety and security of participants and the facility.
  • Administers basic first aid and medication as needed to participants.
  • Verifies participants when entering and exiting bus; conducts inspection of bus to ensure all participants have exited.
  • Ensure all children are checked into Procare upon arrival and checked out at the end of the day.
  • Transports participants daily, as required.
  • Assists in the marketing and public relations for the program.
  • Provides assistance to other employees as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
  • Palm Beach County Quality Improvement System (QIS) standards.
  • Florida Gold Seal Accreditation Program.
  • Council on Accreditation (COA) fundamental standards.
  • S.T.E.A.M. curriculum.
  • Minimum standards of developmentally appropriate practice for elementary age children.
  • Games, activities and arts/crafts for youth.
  • Program policies and emergency procedures.
  • Basic office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Basic first aid and CPR.

  • Pass and maintain the Department of Children and Families (DCF) Live Scan Clearinghouse Level II background.

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two (2) years of professional child care experience with children ages 5 to 16.
  • School-Age Professional Certificate (SAPC) is preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (within six (6) months of employment).
  • The following Department of Children and Families (DCF) Child Care courses must be completed within 90 days of hire:
  • Health, Safety and Nutrition (8 hours)
  • Child Growth and Development (6 hours)
  • Behavioral Observation and Screening (6 hours)
  • Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (4 hours)
  • Health and Nutrition in the School Readiness Program (# of hours) - NO Competency Exam required.
  • Safety Practices in the School Readiness Program (# of hours) - NO Competency Exam required.
  • The following Department of Children and Families (DCF) Child Care courses must be started within 90 days of employment and completed within twelve (12) months of hire:
  • Child Care Facility Rules and Regulations (6 hours) AND one (1) of the following:
  • Foundations of Advancing Youth Development (12 hours) OR
  • Special Needs Appropriate Practices (10 hours)
  • Annually complete eighteen (18) hours of in-service training (online or instructor led).
  • Possess and maintains a Valid Florida Driver's License, and the ability to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake (AB), and Passenger (P) endorsements within six (6) months of employment, and the ability to maintain the Class (B) license.
