Department Summary

Facilities Services is a unit within Campus Planning and Facilities Management in the Finance and Administration portfolio. Finance and Administration is a vibrant and varied portfolio serving all aspects of campus life. Our employees perform a wide range of functions including offering essential financial tools and support to the university's many departments, providing key resources to employees, and keeping campus safe, clean, accessible and beautiful.

Campus Planning and Facilities Management (CPFM) is a dynamic department, which comprises five units, and approximately 270 employees: Facilities Services, Utilities & Energy, Campus Planning, Office of Sustainability, and Design & Construction. The units of CPFM strive to provide excellent customer service to the University of Oregon campus and operate with the highest professional standards, communicating and collaborating with customers to support the stewardship of the campus.

Facilities Services (FS) is responsible for the management of human, financial and material resources, the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures related to the operation, maintenance, repair and minor renovation of university buildings, grounds and infrastructure systems. These services provide the University of Oregon community with a safe, efficient, reliable, functional and aesthetically pleasing learning environment in support of the University's mission and vision.

The Zero Waste unit promotes excellence in solid waste management, including recycling/composting and refuse services, and supports the environmental/sustainability education and operational sustainability strategies to the university community while attaining reduction, reuse and recycling goals. The UO Zero Waste Program strives to model excellence in environmental stewardship and to stimulate campus and community sustainable practices.
Position Summary

The purpose of the Zero Waste Program Coordinator position is to develop, implement, monitor, expand and oversee the Housing, Compost, and Event services programs within the overall Campus Zero Waste Program. The Housing, Compost, and Events units serve to coordinate all the housing, compost, and event efforts campus-wide, including: all campus food service outlets, Housing food service, living areas, campus buildings, all student events and campus catered meetings/conferences/festivals/events. Duties include: developing, assessing, implementing, overseeing operational and promotional programs for all housing, compost, and events on campus; researching and identifying compostables technology/products, overseeing an average of 20 student employees (10 FTE) in operations, promotions, and administrative duties; and assisting with the Garbage Services operations on an as needed basis.

The Zero Waste Program Coordinator represents the Housing, Compost and Events to outside entities including: industry reps, government officials, and other institutions and professional organizations. Position duties include: creating tracking mechanisms, record keeping, research, regulatory compliance, providing technical information, and industry/government/collegiate networking. Position is responsible for providing trainings, presenting at/attending conferences, holding/attending meetings, and representing housing, compost, and event interests in the overall program. The position must create comprehensive reports for all housing, compost and event activities for legislative compliance and program monitoring. The position works a flexible schedule as needed, at times the employee needs to assist Garbage Services or other operational needs within CPFM.

Driver's Certification
It is a requirement to qualify for and maintain UO driver's certification eligibility, which includes maintaining an Oregon driver's license throughout employment in this position.

Essential Personnel
This unit may provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather. This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.
Minimum Requirements

• Two years of technical or professional-level experience advising and/or instructing the public concerning specific programs or processes, monitoring programs, or performing participant reviews.
Professional Competencies

• Knowledge of recycling/composting/solid waste systems, markets and operations.
• Must have experience in developing, implementing and managing operational and promotional programs.
• Must have strong interpersonal skills sufficient to provide excellent customer service and productively solve problems individually or in a team setting.
• Must possess leadership skills and demonstrated supervisory experience.
• Must possess/demonstrate computer skills sufficient to generate spreadsheets, statistical analysis, graphs/charts, and write memos/correspond.
• Ability and experience driving large vehicles.
• Must have oral/written communication skills sufficient to create/give public presentations.
• Must have experience innovating creative educational materials.

Preferred Qualifications

• Class B Commercial Driver's License.
• Experience operating a forklift.
