Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

-Map sites of O-glycosylation on overexpressed and endogenous proteins using mass spectrometry.
-Characterize biological functions of O-fucose/O-glucose using cell-based and in vitro experiments.
-Work with knockout mice to evaluate functions of O-fucose/O-glucose in vivo.
-Train postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate students using these and other methods.
-Other research areas as they develop.

Minimum Qualifications

Position Summary

The candidate will be a member of a team working on understanding the biological role of O-fucose and O-glucose modifications on cysteine-rich domains (Epidermal Growth Factor-like (EGF) repeats, Thrombospondin Type 1 Repeats (TSRs), and Elastin Microfibril Interface (EMI) domains) added by the enzymes Protein O-fucosyltransferases 1, 2, 3 and 4 (POFUT1-4) and Protein O-glucosyltransferases 1, 2 and 3 (POGLUT1-3). This project is supported by grants from the National Institute of Health. They will use cell-based and in vitro experiments to determine biological roles of these modifications on substrate proteins. The candidate will also be responsible for training postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate students in these and other biochemical and cell biological methods.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position

PhD in Biochemistry or related field.
-Experience with mass spectral glycoproteomic site mapping of O-linked modifications on proteins.

-Mammalian tissue culture

-Expression and purification of proteins in mammal tissue culture.

-Experience with in vitro glycosyltransferase assays.

-Basic biochemical and cell biological methods (PCR, SDS-PAGE, Western blots, etc.).

-Experience with mice a plus
