About the College/Unit/Department

Through a partnership with the Department of the Air Force, the Owens Institute for Behavioral Research (OIBR) and the Department of Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) are seeking candidates for to support the execution of an ongoing program evaluation, specifically the evaluation of financial literacy trainings for Airmen. The UGA team oversees the development and implementation of comprehensive Air Force-wide evaluation efforts of a set of trainings delivered to Airmen at various touchpoints over the life course ranging from promotion and pre-deployment to marriage and divorce. OIBR is an interdisciplinary social and behavioral science research facility which serves as a base for numerous extramural grant awards. The HDFS Department has a strong research and evaluation culture, with a focus on studying the human lifespan, family systems, and child and adolescent development as well as the diversity of experiences and approaches to prevention and intervention.

Minimum Qualifications

Position Summary

In collaboration with the larger team of family scientists investing financial literacy training impacts and, more broadly, the individual, relational, and financial well-being of military families, the Post-Doctoral Research Associate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing activities to support progress on research dissemination efforts, with an emphasis on quantitative analyses. This individual will play a key role in effectively translating findings from large datasets into collaboratively written reports for funders and assisting in efforts to disseminate project findings through various scholarly products.

Job responsibilities include initiative, critical thinking, and collaboration with team members and stakeholders of diverse backgrounds.

Job responsibilities will also entail the use of multiple statistical programs (e.g., R, Mplus, SPSS) to conduct a range of analyses with varying levels of complexity.

Accomplishing these deliverables will involve effectively communicating and working with various team members to ensure shared meaning and progress on project goals/activities, participating in survey development and management, and conducting data collection.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position

Ph.D. in the field by the position start date;
Experience in research practices and protocols (e.g., data collection and basic analyses);
Proficiency in common statistical programs (e.g., R, Mplus, SPSS);
Experience or training in the design, implementation, delivery and management of educational programs/services; and
Experience with research dissemination efforts, including conducting and publishing scholarly research articles as well as reports for non-academic audiences.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

This individual will assist researchers in planning, maintaining, and completing research and/or evaluation projects involved in the discovery of new knowledge, techniques, and concepts which involve advanced level scientific/research knowledge, skills and abilities following relevant policies, procedures, regulations and laws. Experience with program evaluation, research planning, implementation, and analyses, experience writing for various audiences (academics and lay audiences), and excellent written and oral communication skills.
