Summary

This research technician program studies novel treatment for heart failure using genetically engineered mouse models. Opportunities to develop independent project will be provided if the individual is motivated.

Job Duties

  • Maintains mouse colony and genotyping.
  • Assists with basic lab tasks and duties. PCR, western blot, etc.
  • Performs mouse surgery (training will be provided).
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.
  • Maintains mouse colonies that includes ear tag and genotyping by PCR.
  • Performs survival surgery for mice to generate cardiac disease models.
  • Performs drug injections daily after surgery for 1-2 months.
  • Performs echocardiogram to assess heart function.
  • Harvests and processes tissues from these mice at the end of the experiment.
  • Trained on these tasks once in the lab and will be working along side with a senior person with extensive experience until you are fully independent.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in molecular biology, histology, physiology is highly appreciated.
  • Experience with mice is highly appreciated.
  • Be comfortable working with mice.
