The California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Central Region Habitat Conservation Program is looking to fill a new supervisory position that will oversee staff conducting California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) review of projects within the Central Region in addition to supervising staff focused on water resources and water infrastructure planning, permitting, projects, and programs. This supervisory position will support staff in pre-consultation, environmental review and permitting, water rights and groundwater management review and consultation, and water resource project coordination across internal and external partners with consideration for climate extremes including drought and flood.

The duties of this position require a working knowledge of the principles, policies, programs, and laws governing California's fish and wildlife resources; aquatic and riparian ecological principles; environmental review and permitting; water infrastructure; water rights; groundwater management; instream flow; and California Department of Fish and Wildlife administrative procedures and policies. The incumbent is expected to apply extensive knowledge of environmental impacts, have a high degree of initiative, and exercise sound independent judgment. Public contacts made in the course of this work are highly sensitive and involve varied partners and stakeholders. The incumbent is expected to coordinate closely with Water Branch, Habitat Conservation Planning Branch (HCPB), and other statewide programs on technical and policy issues as appropriate.

Working Conditions
The position requires the use of a computer for several hours each day, the completion of office tasks that require sitting, standing, and walking to other locations; attendance at meetings and participation in conference or video calls. The position may require travel throughout the State including overnight travel, early mornings, late nights, hiking over uneven and possibly steep or wet terrain, use of 4-wheel drive vehicle (including all-terrain vehicle), and work in inclement weather. A valid California driver's license is required to drive to meetings and field sites. The position may require the incumbent to wear a uniform identifying the employee as California Department of Fish and Wildlife staff.

This position is based out of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Central Region office in Fresno, is designated as office-centered and is expected to work on average three days per week at a physical work site for business purposes such as staff development and coordination, meetings, and hearings.
