The Office of Graduate Student Services at Georgia State University is seeking to hire an Academic Advisor II.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

This position is responsible for assisting newly admitted graduate students with customer relationship questions and networking new students with appropriate points of contact in financial aid, academic advisement (with assigned faculty), registration, and orientation processes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Responsible within assigned graduate application population using the common graduate application platform - Slate.
  • Reviews each graduate application within the assigned population to the College of Education & Human Development; calculates overall GPA for specific graduate programs per admission requirements and ensures that each applicant meets the minimum admission requirements established by the program faculty; processes petitions for graduate admissions for those applicants just below the minimum requirements for admission.
  • Coordinates virtual information sessions for graduate applicants.
  • Creates TPMS records per the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) the state licensing agency that awards professional licenses.
  • Responsible for an assigned graduate degree population for graduation audits and graduation checkouts each semester; process petitions for late graduation for those graduate students who missed the graduation deadline; assists with petitions for waiver or variance for assigned graduate student population.
  • Maintain contact with prospective students via phone and email.
  • Participate in recruitment events such as departmental information sessions, office-coordinated information sessions, and new graduate student orientation.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree and three years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Prior experience with graduate admissions.
  • Experience developing and delivering on-campus events and programs for information sessions and orientations.
  • Experience with Banner and Slate.
