The Chesapeake Police Department is seeking an Account Specialist I to enhance our accounting team.

The successful candidate for this position will enjoy learning and providing excellent customer service while performing the following duties:
Vocational/Educational Requirement:
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate's degree in accounting or a closely related field.
Experience:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.
Special Requirements:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
Preferred Qualifications
Excellent customer service skills, PeopleSoft experience, government accounting experience, and proficiency in Excel.

The successful candidate for this position will enjoy learning and providing excellent customer service while performing the following duties:
- Reviews, verifies and processes invoices for payments and credits.
- Creates accounts payable, revenue and budget journals.
- Creates requisitions for the purchase of services, equipment and supplies.
- Verifies, monitors and reconciles accounts.
- Coordinates payment of department-wide PCard report.
- Coordinate the financial portion for department travel including payments, per diem reimbursements and travel voucher reconciliation.
- Maintain department petty cash and travel petty cash.
- Deposit miscellaneous accounts receivable.
- Create and update supplier information in PeopleSoft for the Police Department.
- Interacts with employees, other departments (Finance, Purchasing, Treasurer), vendors and external agencies to ensure accuracy of accounts and payments.
