Job Summary
The Administrative Manager Associate for Surgical Specialties OR schedulers reports to the Administrative Manager Senior in Surgical Specialties for Ambulatory Care Services at Michigan Medicine (ACS), and partners with the Surgical Specialties Clinical Administrators, ACCCs and Nursing Director for overall performance and management of OR schedulers.
Surgical Specialties is a Segment within ACS that provides ambulatory care leadership for the Departments of Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology, Surgery and Urology. This position has dedicated effort to provide administrative leadership and OR schedule utilization management for the Surgery (General Surgery, Plastic Surgery & Thoracic Surgery) and Urology Department This is inclusive of sections and division within these areas. The OR schedulers in these areas will be responsible for the providers, department and clinics that they are hired into. The manager will ensure best practices and metrics are aligned with department needs and institutional goals.

Responsibilities*
- Supervision and direction given to operational administrative staff and engagement in their professional development
- Oversees the day-to-day OR scheduling for Surgery and Urology
- Leads onboarding of new providers and OR schedulers, specific to OR scheduling, for all new surgery scheduling team members, including UM standardized onboarding checklist and job specific checklist
- Handles hiring/discipline and firing
- Evaluates OR scheduling in collaboration with the Department, Section Division and triad leadership teams in Surgery and Urology
- Provides feedback on Surgery Scheduling operational issues involving providers in Surgery and Urology
- Manages routine OR scheduling operations (e.g., scheduling OR cases, Pre-op scheduling, post-op scheduling, etc.)
- Provides feedback/supervision/support/performance evaluation of assigned ACU staff
- Develop and oversee efforts to recognize and incentivize staff excellence
- Identify opportunities for quality improvement, and carry forward quality improvement, in all areas of OR scheduling
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor?s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience .
- 1-3 years supervisory experience or Lead OR scheduling experience
- 2 years of experience in surgery scheduling
- 2 years of experience working with Epic and Optime
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate teamwork necessary to leverage day to day operations.
- Demonstrated effective communication, interpersonal and conflict management skills.
- Demonstrated skill in change management and process improvement
Desired Qualifications*
- Prior OR scheduler supervisory/lead experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of the University of Michigan policies and procedures.
- One or more years? experience working with surgical specialties in an ambulatory care unit.
- Prior work experience in a surgical out-patient clinic setting
- Experience with Process improvement and workflow development.
