Job Description
Submarine Core Design offers unique opportunities to perform structural evaluations of complex components in support of the operating fleet. There is a large variety of different analyses performed in support of our hardware, which provides a significant learning opportunity. Analyses are performed using commercial codes, such as ABAQUS, in-house developed codes, and hand calculations. Also, there is a mix of long-term projects and quick turn-around tasks. The successful candidate will have ownership of their analyses and the necessary interactions with all stakeholders. There is a large amount of interfacing with other organizations, which will require the successful candidate to coordinate their efforts with these groups. This will also provide an increased opportunity for learning as it will expose the successful candidate to other disciples such as materials science and thermal-hydraulic performance. The unit actively supports the fleet through performance of work efforts such as continued use evaluations, service life extension requests, and updating design analyses.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience
Preferred Skills
BS Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering
Structural analysis experience
Experience with ABAQUS
Ability to work on and coordinate efforts of a multi-disciplinary team
Experience with computer scripting languages such as Fortran, Matlab, Perl etc.
Strong communication skills - verbal and written

Pay Range
$83,600.00 - $130,700.00 annually

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
