The College of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants to apply for the new position of Anesthesia Scheduler. This position is the primary scheduler for small animal anesthesia cases and veterinary imaging services (VIS) cases in collaboration with the overseeing clinicians. The position interacts with specialty services and their respective staff, clinicians, and students to ensure appropriate and effective flow of scheduled or emergent anesthetic procedures. The incumbent will provide customer service to all services by gathering, evaluating, and planning day-to-day operations to optimize scheduling for anesthesia cases throughout the small animal hospital.

The Veterinary Medical Center is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year. Occasional weekend, evening, or holiday work may be required of this position.

Qualifications:
Typical Responsibilities:
- Prepares, coordinates, communicates and updates the anesthesia and VIS schedule daily
- Establishes and coordinates times of procedure with relevant services; premedication, induction, recovery, location availability, supplies, etc. Assigns cases to anesthesia nurses and provides frequent updates regarding the order of events as changes occur (premedication, catherization, imaging, oral exam, induction, etc.)
- Communicates with all parties and ensures regular updates on procedures, patient status, paperwork, requests, available personnel, etc. is available.
- Documents all service and patient-related communications with regard to scheduling and patient care needs during procedures
- Assists with patients' checklists and requests. Ensures proper guidelines are followed and signed by the service overseeing the case.
- Follows all infectious disease control and radiation safety guidelines when planning scheduled cases, including communication, room selection, adherence to safety regulations, PPE designation, and post- procedures disinfection scheduling.
- Troubleshoots computer software for scheduling needs; aids in development of efficient and effective scheduling system.
- Is proficient in using and entering data into the electronic scheduling system and retrieving information from electronic data base available for patient related information.
- Actively participates in safety culture initiatives and is involved in data collection, observation, and evaluations regarding outcomes.
- Scans and maintains anesthesia records systems for small animal anesthesia and VIS.
- Performs on-call duties on a rotating basis as a veterinary assistant, if applicable.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent. 1 year of relevant experience as a veterinary assistant or as a receptionist/scheduler in a fast-paced veterinary clinic. 1 year of experience working with computer programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree. Veterinary Assistant certificate. 6 months of relevant experience in a veterinary academic or specialty hospital.
