The College of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants to apply for the position of Medical Technologist, Endocrinology, located within the Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences department. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the quality and efficiency of the Diagnostic Endocrinology Service. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing routine hormone analyses on clinical specimens, performing quality control and quality assurance procedures, leading validation of new test offerings, assisting with research studies, trouble-shooting assays and equipment, maintaining client confidentiality, and providing customer service.
Depending on experience and qualifications of successful candidate, individual will be hired in as a Medical Technologist 1, Medical Technologist 2, Senior Medical Technologist 1, or Senior Medical Technologist 2.

College of Veterinary Medicine
The College of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants to apply for the position of Medical Technologist, Endocrinology, located within the Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences department. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the quality and efficiency of the Diagnostic Endocrinology Service. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing routine hormone analyses on clinical specimens, performing quality control and quality assurance procedures, leading validation of new test offerings, assisting with research studies, trouble-shooting assays and equipment, maintaining client confidentiality, and providing customer service.
Depending on experience and qualifications of successful candidate, individual will be hired in as a Medical Technologist 1, Medical Technologist 2, Senior Medical Technologist 1, or Senior Medical Technologist 2.
Qualifications:
Typical Responsibilities:
Hormone Analysis and Quality Assurance:
- Validates new tests and test methodologies
- Sets-up and performs hormone assays on clinical specimens
- Assures quality control by assessing assay performance
- Participates in quality assurance testing
- Trouble-shoots assays and specialized equipment
- Documents problems with assays and equipment
- Maintains and calibrates equipment as needed
- Assists with research studies
- Reviews and transcribes results
- Operates standard laboratory equipment and specialized equipment used in hormone analysis
- Participates in general laboratory safety training and specialized radiation safety training
- Ensures safety protocols followed
Clerical Laboratory Tasks and Customer Service:
- Receives and accessions samples
- Generates and sends laboratory reports
- Interacts with veterinarians, technicians, students, and pet owners concerning test protocols, submission of specimens, and results through email, phone, and in-person
- Maintains client confidentiality of test results
- Ensures clients receive results in a timely manner
General Laboratory Maintenance:
- Restocks supplies
- Disposes biohazard by properly containing, labeling, and delivering to external biohazard area
- Documents receipt of radioactive assay kits and properly store reagents
- Assists with maintaining chemical inventories and Material Safety Data Sheets
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of laboratory
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed:
- General knowledge of proper laboratory techniques
- Knowledge of medical technology terminology and tools
- Ability to follow instructions and test protocols
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a group
- Skilled at professional communication, both written and verbal
- Knowledge of proper care and use of laboratory equipment
- Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation
- Skilled at time management and meeting deadlines
- Skilled at quality control analysis and assay validation
- Skilled at performing competent analysis of specimens and obtaining accurate results
- Computer skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related field
- Completion of an accredited medical technology program
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional relevant experience preferred.
- Medical Technologist State of Tennessee License
- ASCP Certification (MLT or MLS)
