Job Description:

Creates a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth of students enrolled in an educational setting. Establishes effective rapport with students. Motivates students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for becoming a responsible citizen in accordance with each student's ability.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Direct learning activities of the students assigned to the Cosmetology program.
  • Be willing to expand program parameters to meet local industry needs in the business field.
  • Collaborate with other related programs on students' projects.
  • Must attend new teacher training for CTE and earn teacher certification.
  • Complete graduate follow-up report annually.
  • Maintain an updated list of prospective employers and educational opportunities for students exiting the program.
  • Organize and utilize an advisory council for gathering up-to-date information in the area which may indicate need for changes in course content, equipment or methods.
  • Teach the Alabama Course of Study: Career Technical Education - Cosmetology Curriculum.
  • Maintain necessary records to support all instructional activities.
  • Develop course syllabus from the course of study to ensure the students are exposed to job entry-level skills.
  • Detailed lesson plans should be developed to deliver the course of study content standards.
  • Work to ensure that job placement and follow up will be an ongoing activity.
  • Actively recruit prospective students to the Cosmetology program.
  • Must be knowledgeable of and comply with the Board of Education's Policies.
  • Establish and maintain an active CTSO as related to their program of study.
  • Ensure the program complies with local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations. It may be a requirement to follow credentialing guidelines from professional organizations.
  • Any and other essential functions assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Must hold a valid certificate as Cosmetology and Barbering Instructor; Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or ALSDE CTE equivalent. Valid Alabama teaching certificate in the career technical subject area assigned as set by the ALSDE Career Tech Division to meet certification requirements; Must meet Every Student Succeed Act (ESSA) federal and state requirements or a willingness to meet the requirements within the designated time frame; Such above qualifications as the Board may require.
