DMV's Information Systems Division (ISD) is seeking a motivated technology-forward thinking Information Technology (IT) Specialist I to be a part of a dynamic team that serves in the Driver Licenses (DL) Backend Support Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for enhancing the quality, reliability, user experience and access of DMV technology products. As an IT Specialist I, the incumbent will be instrumental in interpreting business problems and technology, formulating and presenting solutions to stakeholders. IT Specialist I possess a good practical and technical knowledge base, which includes emerging "cutting-edge" technologies. Under the general direction of the Information Technology Manager I, the IT Specialist I will perform duties related to Business Technology Management, IT Project Management, and Software Engineering including, but not limited to, technical writing, communications management, and software development. The it Specialist I is responsible for analyzing, designing, documenting, developing, and testing applications in the DL Backend Support Group. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: software engineering; software development; strong interpersonal skills; problem-solving skills, technical documentation, facilitation of Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions, knowledge of project management practices and software development life cycle.

Working Conditions

Part-time telework available. Telework requires California residency.

This position works in an office setting, in a cubicle, which may include sitting for long periods of time, accessing a computer, and typing for long periods of time. DMV operates 24/7, so this position may be required to carry a cell phone, work occasional evenings and/or weekends, or attend out of town classes or conferences.

Desirable Qualifications: • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or closely related field • Knowledge and experience in COBOL, Assembler, DB2, Endeavor, and CICS. • Knowledge of DMV's IT infrastructure • Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills • Ability to demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills • Ability to work independently and in a team environment • Strong written and verbal technical and non-technical communication skills. Excellent collaboration skills • Experience gathering business and system requirements and creating technical documentation for large IT projects. This position may be required to work on weekends and off shift hours. Telework available but may change due to the governor's directive to work in the office two days a week. Telework requires California residency. This position is eligible for full-time telework; however, this position may be required to occasionally report to the designated office location in DMV headquarters at 2415 First Avenue, Sacramento, California, 95818. Telework requires California residency. Travel expenses related to reporting to the designated office is the employee's own responsibility and is not eligible for reimbursement.
