Responsibilities

Responsible for assisting in the management, administrative direction, and coordination of staff and activities of the Controller's Office. Manages the operational and financial activity for Controller's Office purchasing, contract management, travel, departmental human resources/payroll, and administrative budgeting.
  • Responsible for providing strategic oversight and direction in the areas of administrative, departmental human resources, and operational budget/fiscal management. Develops financial reports and maintains accurate budget and financial records to properly account for transactions in the Controller's Office administrative budgets. Creates and provides budgetary and rate projections and recommendations. Periodically reports the financial activity and account balances in these budgets to the Controller and responsible area leadership. Monitors and ensures the proper review and reconciliation of all departments for which Controller's Office staff are responsible. Develops, coordinates, implements, and enforces departmental policies and procedures for the utilization of Controller Foundation funds.
  • Provides leadership over departmental Financial and Human Resources operations. Develops, recommends, and implements policies and procedures. Provides administrative and financial advice and counsel to management to ensure adherence to the policies of the University, client site, federal, state, as well as generally accepted accounting principles and business practices applied in an environment of sound internal controls. Ensures university policy and procedure changes and best practices are communicated to Controller's Office employees and facilitates related training, as needed.
  • Responsible for supervising all UBA positions within the Controller's Office providing guidance and direction, including management of these positions' recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and staff development. Provides guidance and training on performance expectations, policies and procedures, systems usage, and other relevant areas that contribute to improved performance, professional development, and effective work activities. Responsible for overseeing efficient and effective operation of the procurement, travel, and HR procedures to satisfy the business requirements of the Controller's Office.
  • Supervises department's IT staff and manages the department's technology needs, which includes the management of hardware and software support, technical needs assessments, and the oversight of equipment purchasing, disposition and improvement. Serves as Property Manager for the Controller's Office. Supervises department's communication staff and manages the communication-related activities of the Controller's Office.
  • Serves as a member of the Controller's Office Leadership team, participating in strategic planning and staffing decisions. Serves as liaison between the department and other university areas including Human Resources, Payroll, Budgeting, Parking, Facilities, and FSU Foundation.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four years' experience related to an administrative service or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Managerial experience and demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication abilities to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Familiarity with the higher education landscape, including understanding accounting practices, state funding, and institutional priorities.
