Department Summary

The mission of the Division of Student Affairs is to create solutions for a healthier community by fostering student success. There are 8 functional units within the Division of Student Affairs: Center for Student Life, Career Readiness Center, Center for Academic Performance, Office of Care and Civility, Testing and Evaluation Services, International Services, Office of Disability Access, and Student Assistance Resource Center.

Position Overview

The Student Affairs Department at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire an Assistant Director of the Career Readiness Center to join our team. Duties in this role include providing management support for staff within the Career Readiness Center, including budget and strategic planning, oversight of online student career support systems and job boards, and supervision of parttime staff and volunteers. Additional duties include serving as liaison with academic departments for developing comprehensive career readiness programming, and providing resources, activities, and advising that facilitate student career success.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four (4) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in computer technologies utilized in higher education institutions.
- Must be able to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.
- Must be able to demonstrate professional communication skills through all levels of the institution.
- Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of student development theory and practice in higher education.
- Must display a high level of confidence in presenting to various audiences.
- Experience in employer relations
- Exposure to data collection methods, management, and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
- Masters degree and/or four years of experience in a related field.
- Preferred Career Development Certification or Talent Development Certification such as Certified Career Services Professional, Certified Career Coach, Certified Workforce Develpment Professional or Certified Talent Development Professional or equivalent.
- Experience in career development programming and large event planning.
- Previous Supervisory and Teambuilding in a higher education setting experience.
- Previous experience managing budgets and resources in higher education.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Job Duties:
  • Work closely with all academic programs to develop comprehensive career development strategy and curriculum within each school.
  • Counsel with students, classes, and student organizations regarding career services, including but not limited to the development of Curriculum Vitas or Resumes, personal statements, interviewing techniques, professionalism and etiquette, benefits and compensation, and package negotiation techniques.
  • Conduct oversight of major career events, development activities, fairs and other events as needed.
  • Oversee operation of primary job boards and other job search-related systems, such as Graduway, Handshake, Big Interview, Canvas and Candid Career.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring the annual budget as well as analysis of Career Readiness Center activities and events for end-of-year reporting.
  • Further develop Career Champions/ Mentorship program through department Liaisons, including formalizing process within each academic program, alumni relations and advancement office and tracking outcomes data.
  • Direct employer relations and community/alumni outreach activities, including facilitation of student employment activities along with academic program preceptor relationship building.
  • Provide supervision and development of part-time staff, including graduate student assistants, nonstudent hourly, Peer Advisers, and other part-time workers.
  • Facilitate general accreditation and assessment activities.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm, with occasional evenings or weekends as required for divisional events. Remote work available up to 2 days per week when student events and office traffic allow.
