Position Overview

The G Brint Ryan College of Business (RCOB) provides for-credit internship opportunities for students in all majors and graduate programs. This includes several programs requiring internships to graduate. The internship programs are reviewed as a service of the Wilson Jones Career Center (WJCC) to the Ryan College of Business faculty who are the instructors of for-credit internship courses. The Associate Director will collaborate closely with the existing WJCC staff in the daily operations and functions for internship preparation and programming. The Associate Director will supervise a staff of intern coordinators who are assigned to prepare students in the College to search for internships, and to obtain academic credit for their programs. The Associate Director will coordinate closely with the Senior Associate Director of the Wilson Jones Career Center on the daily operation of internship programs and closely consult with Ryan College of Business faculty and staff as well as the staff of the WJCC.

This position is responsible for assisting senior leadership in the Career Center with providing departmental budgeting insight, personnel management, and developing departmental policies and procedures for assigned units within the office. Work involves oversight of internship team and processes in the Ryan College of Business including internship preparation, internship searching and reporting. Will collaborate with the career education team to provide career advising to current students and former students, developing relationships with potential employers and conducting training relating to career development.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in related field and four years' of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of career advising and development.
  • Knowledge of University operations, policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of computer technology and applications in the career services field.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with students, individually and in group situations.
  • Excellent presentation and counseling skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and plan work of subordinates.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in business administration and 2 years' experience in business career services and/or one of the following areas: Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Logistics, Management, or Human Resources with previous work experience in business and industry. Preference will be given to those who hold an MBA or MS degree in Business.

Job Duties:
  • Supervise the Internship Coordinators.
  • Develop, maintain and improve overall management of internship operations, procedures and planning for all academic departments for which responsible, as part of the Wilson Jones Career Center.
  • Assist with overall promotion of internships both on campus as well as off-campus. Participates in University scheduled events to promote internships.
  • Assist and support the overall management of data and administration of the internships by the internship coordinators.
  • Supervise recruitment, screening, orientation, enrollment, and preparation of students to participate in the internship, job shadowing, and mentorship programs, which includes work experience with local employers.
  • Conduct professional workshops that help students connect their on-the-job experiences with academic learning and career exploration and planning. Conduct activities according to the most current G. Brint Ryan College of Business Internship Policy and specific guidelines of individual academic departments and programs with oversight of the internship for their department or major.
  • Collaborate with employers to create internship positions to meet the needs of students within programs that they are assigned to.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with internship faculty members in assigned majors and programs. Communicate faculty concerns regarding internships and intern process to designated faculty and to the Career Center Team.
  • Assists and advises on best practice guidelines for internships as needed. Proposes revisions to guidelines as necessary. Serve as the liaison to the RCOB Internship Committee.
