The Assistant Director of Special Education will work with the Director of Special Education to provide programmatic leadership for CDCPS for Special Education to a network of campuses. This Assistant Director will support the Director with staff supervision, use of data to inform instruction, professional development paired with real-time coaching, and compliance with all federal and state special education laws.\r\n

CDCPS manages multiple campuses across Lawrence, MA, and serves 1,200 pre-kindergarten to 8th-grade students. \r\nResponsibilities (included but not limited to):\r\n
    \r\n
  • Collaborates with key staff to ensure effective management of SPED programming across network, including Director of Special Education, Director of Early Learning, Director of Academics 2-8, and Heads of School.\r\n
  • Supervises special education staff, which includes coaching and evaluation.\r\n
  • In collaboration with the Director of SPED, manages SPED compliance components in accordance with DESE regulations and special education laws, including but not limited to: IEP review, ESPED updates, internal special education file reviews, organizing special education data.\r\n
  • Assists the Director of Special Education with hiring for the special education department.\r\n
  • Conducts classroom observations of special education students and provide feedback to teachers on specific instructional strategies.\r\n
  • Works with staff to implement accommodations in regular instruction and in testing (this includes Special Education accommodations and assisting Head of Schools with testing schedules for all standardized tests given by the school e.g. MCAS, ACCESS) in conjunction with Special education staff. This also includes meeting with classroom teachers to oversee the implementation of accommodations in the regular classroom.\r\n
  • In conjunction with the Director of SPED, serves as the PAC (Parent Advisory Council) liaison for monthly meetings and take and disseminate notes as needed.\r\n
  • In conjunction with the Director of SPED, facilitates trainings and professional development for special education staff as well as regular education staff.\r\n
  • In conjunction with Director of SPED, provides leadership for TCGs Diversity, Belonging, Inclusion, and Equity initiatives. Creates and supports a culture of welcoming and belonging for all students and staff.\r\n

\r\nQualifications:\r\n

  • A passionate belief in CDCPS mission, values, and educational model\r\n
  • Masters Degree preferred; Bachelor's Degree Required\r\n
  • Moderate Disabilities PreK-8th Grade License from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (MA DESE) Required\r\n
  • Licensure as a Director of Special Education preferred\r\n
  • A drive to set and achieve ambitious, challenging, and tangible goals\r\n
  • A willingness to pursue continuous improvement and refinement as well as success\r\n
  • Demonstrated skills in collaborative planning and problem-solving\r\n
  • An ability to lead by example and offer a strong, accessible presence while building positive culture;\r\n
  • Experience supervising and/or evaluating staff\r\n
  • Deep understanding of standards-based curriculum, and assessment and proven track record of achievement related to student and teacher success\r\n
  • Demonstrated skills in the use of data to inform instruction to promote instructional access and curriculum planning for high-quality special education instruction\r\n
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills\r\n
