Job Duties
The Assistant Facilities Manager assists the Facilities Manager in overseeing the maintenance, care, and efficient and effective operation of all Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation (JYF) facilities, grounds, skilled trades, vehicle fleet, and the equipment used in the administration of facility operations. JYF facilities and grounds include three campuses (Jamestown Settlement, the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, and the Emerson Central Support Complex) that span 46 acres, 29 acres, and 21 acres respectively.
The Assistant Facilities Manager supervises the skilled trades unit, comprising HVAC, Electrician, Plumbing, Carpenter, vehicles maintenance, and other facilities technicians. This position serves as the Agency Transportation Officer; and assists with budget prep and oversight.
Minimum Qualifications
Building & Vehicle Maintenance - Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures used in facility management, custodial services, repair and maintenance of buildings, and electrical and mechanical equipment.
Working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems.
Working knowledge of vehicle and equipment repair.
Safety - Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with facility maintenance activities.
Supervision - Knowledge of management and leadership techniques, principles, and procedures to assign work, schedule, supervise, train, and evaluate the work of assigned staff.
Customer Service - Thorough knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services. This includes setting and meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate complex situations and research information to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to the situation.
Judgment/Decision Making -Exercising appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and resolving complex matters. Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
Interpersonal Relationships - Developing and maintaining cooperative and professional relationships with vendors, employees, managers, and representatives from other agencies and organizations.
Computer Skills - Proficiency in the use computers; proficiency with MS Office and Teams applications, or Google Suite applications, with reasonable speed and accuracy.
Coordination of Work - Ability to establish and implement effective administrative programs and procedures.
- Ability to plan and organize the daily work routine of self and assigned staff.
- Ability to establish priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management methodology.
- Attends and maintains a calendar for meetings, deadlines and events.
- Performs a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others.
Communication - Excellent ability to communicate complex ideas and proposals effectively so others will understand, to include preparation of reports, agendas, and policies. Excellent ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing. Ability to handle a variety of employee relations issues with tact, confidentiality and diplomacy.
Accounting and Budgeting -Ability to employ economic and accounting principles and practices in the analysis and reporting of financial data, to include bid evaluation.
Additional Considerations
Previous experience in building trades, architecture or engineering, or related fields preferred.
