Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.

Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400
enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.

Virginia Western Community College is accepting applications for a full-time Facilities Management Services Manager. This is a management position with responsibility for maintenance-related activities in the Department of Facilities Management Services ( FMS ), with direct responsibility for the supervision of grounds and skilled trades. Grounds includes parking lots, lawn care, nutrient management, custodial contact, storm water management maintenance, recycling, set-ups, moving, trash and maintenance of grounds plantings. Skilled trades includes HVAC , electrical, plumbing, carpentry, locksmith, and painting. The incumbent in this position will prioritize, plan, assign, monitor and evaluate the work of contractors and in-house personnel, to ensure quality, productivity, efficient use of resources, continuous improvement and customer service. Provides leadership by recognizing areas where deficiencies or shortfalls in maintenance exist and proactively taking necessary measures to make improvement. Secures goods and services in accordance with state, VCCS , and college purchasing policies and procedures. Directs compliance requirements with FMS standards, CPSM , NFPA , VUSBC , ADAAG , Regional State Fire Marshal, environmental regulations, and OSHA / VOSH requirements. Position responsibilities also includes skill in various procurement methods, scheduling outsourced resources, record keeping and budget accountability for in-house projects. Reports to and regularly communicates maintenance needs and work progress status to the Vice President of Financial and Administrative Services.

Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Possession of a related trades license or multiple licenses at the master level. Technical background and experience in construction supervision and practices, along with building operational maintenance and repairs. Experience reading, interpreting, and applying blueprints, specifications, codes, and contracts. Experience with the use of AutoCAD, computer based work order database software, scheduling software, Word, Outlook and Excel. Work related experience in overseeing complex equipment repair and/or renovation projects. Extensive experience with facilities operations and maintenance requirements meeting regulatory and code requirements. Extensive experience with building systems and automation. Extensive experience with grounds maintenance and infrastructure. Excellent documentation skills for projects, equipment updates and compliance with regulatory requirements. Extensive knowledge of maintenance, repair, renovation, and construction processes and regulations. A valid driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain a Virginia driver’s license. Applicants must be available to work evening hours, weekends, and holidays when emergent issues arise.
Additional Considerations
Preferred experience in a college or large physical plant. Work related experience in state procurement practices for facilities operations and construction projects.
