Job Description

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES

SUMMARYOF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Delegates assignment to nursing staff based on patient acuity and skill level. Ensure that a plan of nursing care is initiated based on the assessment of the patient.
2. Supervise, guide and direct nursing staff in the delivery of patient care according to the involving needs of the patients.
3. Completes written patient assignment at the beginning of the tour.
4. Make patient rounds to evaluate nursing care, assess staff performance and provide feedback and positive.
5. Give particular attention to activities special to psychiatry such as, use of seclusion/restraint, monitoring of patients on levels of observation: routine, intensive/close and constant observation, suicide precaution, and elopement risk.
6. Participates in community meeting and regular nursing staff meeting.
7. Conduct education and other patient groups such as medication group, orientation group and grooming group.
8. Ensure that the safety of the patient is maintained at all times by recognizing defective materials and promptly initiating action to eliminate them. Ensure crash cart is checked at beginning of Tour.
9. Serve as a resource and /or preceptor in the education of newly hired Nursing staff. Acts as a role model and conform to all Policies and Procedures of the facility.
10. Involved in nursing audit according to performance improvement projects.
11. Reports all incidents to supervisor or ADN completes; investigates and intervene regarding any issues regarding patients or staff and ensure a written report before the end of the tour.
12. Observes psychological, physical and social changes in patient's status and responds promptly exercising reasonable judgment.
13. Review admissions received during the tour and ensure the completion of assignments delegated.
14. Attends continuing education classes in house or off site to update skills and knowledge.
15. Assign nursing staff to escort patients to activities throughout the hospital as required.
16. Assess, plan and implement nursing care of the patient.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and
2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); and
3. Six (6) months of experience as a registered nurse.
