Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Supervises the direct nursing activities on the unit

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Endoscopy Department

SUMMARYOF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensures customer services goal of clinics are met.
2. Collaborates with supervisor in initiating needed changes in the area to obtain optimum quality health care.
3. Reviews and analyzes trends pertinent to delivering quality nursing care, through
Participation as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
4. Recommends changes in nursing policies and procedures.
5. Supervises the direct nursing activities on the unit.
6. Maintains an environment that prevents infection and is safe, monitoring staff compliance with established policies and procedures.
7. Develops a plan of care with the health care team members according to the assessment of each patient's needs.
8. Teaches individuals and groups, patients and families.
9. Collaborates and meets with members of allied health disciplines as needed to implement effective patient care.
10. Responsible for orientating new staff to unit.
11. Participates in unit-based Quality Assurance Program.
12. Assumes Staff Nurse Responsibilities as needed.
13. Documents in a manner that meets medical, legal and regulatory agency requirements for Ambulatory Care.
14. Knowledgeable and compliant with Joint Commission Patient Safety Goals.
15. Knowledgeable about ANA Standards of Nursing Practice.
16. Demonstrates Jean Watson's Caring Theory in each patient contact to promote health and well-being.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and
2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Special Note:
For assignments in Post-Acute Care ONLY, individuals meeting the following criteria may also be considered for appointment: Graduation from a nursing education program registered by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) as licensure qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse (RN) and has applied for licensure as an RN. These unlicensed individuals may be employed to practice under the immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently registered, RN for up to 90 days immediately following graduation pending receipt of a limited permit, which selected candidates must apply for and receive within the same 90-day period. Once a limited permit is received, individuals can practice nursing, under the immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently registered, RN at a NYC Health + Hospitals health care setting for up to one (1) year from the date of issuance of the limited permit. In addition, must hold or obtain through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
