Job Description

TOUR 2: 8:00 A.M - 5:30 P.M

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assume responsibility of Charge Nurse when necessary.
  • Complete written daily assignment as necessary.
  • Completes a nursing assessment utilizing the initial, reassessment, geriatric, diabetic and immunization modules as appropriate.
  • Document all pertinent information on-line in the Nurses Contact Note, assessment/screening modules as appropriate.
  • Documents in the paper medical record when the electronic system is down.
  • Screen patient waiting area and determine the acuity/priority needs of patients.
  • Supervise nursing licensed and unlicensed support staff.
  • Triage patients for care, treatment or medication needs.
  • Follow-up on patients who require further monitoring for care/treatment rendered.
  • Coordinate patient care with interdisciplinary team or community agencies as appropriate.
  • Provide pertinent hand-off communication to team members, Emergency Department, diagnostic services or to In-patient nursing staff when patients are being transferred or admitted to other services.
  • Obtain vital signs or reassess as necessary.
  • Administer injections, immunizations, PPD and medications as ordered or by standing orders.
  • Conduct health teaching, instructions and counseling sessions to patient/client and or significant other as needed.
  • Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation when necessary.
  • Encourage patient/client to vent emotions in a socially acceptable way.
  • Procure medications and supplies for unit.
  • Acts as a preceptor for Orientee or Nursing student.
  • Participate in quality assessment activities.
  • Report occurrences immediately and fill out occurrence form when necessary.
  • Observes patient on cardiac monitor during and post procedure.
  • Orients licensed and unlicensed nursing staff to the unit and Ambulatory Care.
  • Responsible for personal growth and development, developing leadership skills and maintaining clinical competence by attending continuing education programs.
  • Arrives on patient area at designated time.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and
2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA); and
3. Six (6) months of experience as a registered nurse.
