Responsibilities*

The duties and expectations of this appointment include performing research in aeroelasticity and development of reduced order modeling and surrogates from IA/ML techniques. Additionally, there is a need for developing and integrating frameworks accounting for multi-rotor interactions, aero-propulsive effects, non-linear aerodynamics at high angles of attack, and optimal control techniques. Other responsibilities include developing grant proposals, publishing in refereed journals, helping with mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and possibly teaching aerospace engineering courses. The successful candidate will strengthen the Active Aeroelastic and Structures Research Laboratory (A2SRL), developing sophisticated computational and mathematical models in the context of new zero-emission aircraft developments aiming for sustainable aviation.

This new position is needed to expand the current capabilities of the A2SRL, support the ongoing projects, and develop new research opportunities in new sustainable aircraft/concept developments and advanced air mobility. To contribute to such an endeavor, the research activities will address:

- Computational simulations based on enhanced AI/ML numerical models with appropriate fidelity for capturing the complex flight physics involved in the operation of advanced flying vehicles.

- Holistic approaches for aircraft development based on digital models, exploring advanced software capabilities for simulation, design, optimization, and stochastic representations of complex multi-fidelity and multi-physics systems.

- Fundamental research on structural/aerodynamic and aeroelastic models for developing physics-informed reduced-order models (ROMs) for complex nonlinear systems.

Required Qualifications*

Applicants must have earned a doctoral degree in Aerospace Engineering by the employment start date.
