Virginia Military Institute is pleased to announce a search for an Assistant Superintendent for Strategic Enrollment Management/Director of Financial Aid who can foster collaboration across post with institute executives and faculty, working towards the common goal of achieving our strategic enrollment objectives. This position is a direct report to the Superintendent and is a member of the Virginia Militia. Job Responsibilities:

Strategic Enrollment Management

• Oversee five critical enrollment management functional areas: Office of Admissions, Office of Financial Aid, Cadet Marketing, Parent's Council Liaison, and Student Retention Center. Lead a talented team, supported by a robust data analytics capability.

• Develop, implement, and oversee the execution of a multi-year comprehensive strategic enrollment management plan. Set ambitious goals for recruiting and enrolling a diverse Corps of Cadets, including Pell eligible students and Underrepresented Populations (URP).

• Ensure compliance with Title IV and other relevant Commonwealth of Virginia and federal laws and regulations. Foster collaborative relationships across the institution to seamlessly integrate operational and strategic enrollment management initiatives.

• Collaborate with the VMI Chief Information Officer to build and maintain an integrated enrollment information technology architecture. Leverage cutting-edge tools such as Colleague, CRM, mobile texting capabilities, and other enrollment management technologies.

• Actively participate in institutional strategic planning and institutional effectiveness activities related to recruitment, financial aid, and retention. Uphold NCAA and SoCon rules, serving as a liaison to athletics and other internal and external groups.

• Work with Institutional Effectiveness to create a learning organization with predictive models, annual admissions, retention forecasts, and budgets. Collaborate with the Office of Marketing and Communications and the Alumni Agencies on data-driven enrollment marketing and communication campaigns.

• Monitor and assess data to evaluate the effectiveness of the enrollment funnel, recruitment efforts, scholarship programs, and marketing in enhancing yield with potential cadets.

• As a steward of the budget and partner to the department of finance of support, actively participate in the development and management of budgets for enrollment management divisions and oversee and remain in compliance with state-based grants.

Financial Aid

• Oversee the determination of aid eligibility, packaging, and disbursement of student financial aid in accordance with guidelines and regulations provided by the College, federal and state governments, and other private funding agencies.

• Oversee the management of accounts receivable functions including assessment of charges/fees, student billing, adjustments due to Title IV return of fund calculations, reconciliation of awarded and applied financial aid funds, and uncollected debt/accounts.

• Supervise and evaluate Student Financial Services staff. Identify and make use of diverse perspectives, skills, and abilities. Promote teamwork and encourage a positive, efficient work environment with emphasis on superior customer service to students and families.

• Coordinate the automated software systems, printed materials and web sites used to serve students and families, manage funds, adhere to federal and state compliance regulations, package and disburse funds and meet all reporting requirements.

• Keep current and maintain compliance with all financial aid and cash management regulations related to the awarding and delivery of student financial aid.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree (e.g., higher education) with 5-7 years in enrollment management demonstrating increasing responsibility.
• Extensive background in strategic, data-driven student recruitment, and enrollment management practices.
• Proficiency in higher education CRMs and other enrollment management technology platforms.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to learning organizations and data-driven decision making.
• Strong commitment to delivering excellent cadet and stakeholder services.
• Proven ability to lead and manage results-oriented enrollment units.
• Progressive experience collaborating with marketing and strategically leveraging financial aid.
• Proven skills in relationship building and cross-unit collaboration.
• A competitive drive to achieve enrollment goals and drive continuous improvement.
• Budget management expertise and resource allocation acumen.
• Supervisory experience of an interprofessional team.
• Sound judgment.

Additional Considerations

• PhD, EdD or professional doctorate in higher education or related discipline.
• 7-10 years of experience leading enrollment management functions.
• Be a subject matter expert in one of the enrollment management professions (e.g., admissions, financial aid, registrar, etc.).
