SUMMARY

UT Southwestern Medical Center, one of the largest academic medical centers in the U.S., seeks an experienced public health academic innovator for the role of Associate Dean for Research in the Peter O'Donnell School of Public Health (OSPH).

The Associate Dean of Research will lead and oversee the research initiatives of the Peter O'Donnell Jr. School of Public Health. This role is critical in advancing the school's research agenda, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, securing research funding, and promoting a culture of academic excellence and innovation. The Associate Dean of Research will work closely with faculty, students, and external partners to elevate the school's research profile nationally and internationally.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Minimum Requirements:
  • A doctoral degree (Ph.D., Dr.PH., M.D., or equivalent) in public health or a related field.
  • A distinguished record of research accomplishments and publications in public health and have minimum of 7-10 years of experience working with a complex university system, providing support to a range of constituents.
  • Proven experience in securing and managing research grants.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic or research setting. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive research environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in interdisciplinary and collaborative research.
  • Knowledge of public health challenges and opportunities at local, national, and global levels.
  • Experience in mentoring and supporting junior faculty and students
JOB DUTIES
  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for research within the OSPH.
  • Oversee research-related initiatives, programs and infrastructure in the OSPH
  • Promote and facilitate interdisciplinary and collaborative research initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of research excellence and innovation. Identify and pursue funding opportunities from federal, state, and private sources.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of grant proposals. Manage and distribute research funds effectively and equitably.
  • Mentor and support faculty in their research activities and career development.
  • Provide guidance and resources to faculty and students for successful grant writing and research.
  • Promote and support student research opportunities and initiatives.
  • Oversee compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations related to research.
  • Ensure ethical conduct of research and adherence to best practices.
  • Coordinate with the Office of Sponsored Programs and other administrative units.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external research partners, including other academic institutions, government agencies, and industry.
  • Represent the School of Public Health in research-related forums and conferences.
  • Engage with community stakeholders to promote public health research and its impact.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact and quality of the school's research programs.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on research activities and outcomes for various stakeholders.
  • Use data to inform strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts.

  • Work requires telephone and personal contact with all levels of internal and external personnel and organizations.
  • Work requires the ability to read, write, develop plans and procedures, and coordinate persons and other resources to accomplish goals.
  • Work requires responsibility for review, development, recommendation, and implementation of policies.
  • Work requires the ability to travel to undergraduate institutions for meetings with students and faculty.
  • Work requires responsibility for development and tracking of budget accounts.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed primarily in general office and/or laboratory areas.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code •51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
