POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Director of Materials Management reports to the Director of Materials Management and assists with ensuring fiscal responsibility and best practices with regard to supply costs and utilization, as well as regulatory compliance.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

REQUIRED

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field required.

• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in an organization of similar size and scope.

• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

PREFERRED

• Certifications in applicable areas are a plus.

JOB DUTIES

• Works with minimal supervision under the Director of Materials Management.

• Provides details supporting materials management best practices, supply costs, utilization and consumption analysis, capital budgeting and industry trends and technical advances in field. Maintains and utilizes knowledge of regulatory requirements to ensure consistent compliance.

• Enforces departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement programs, and continuing education.

• Develops and maintains good working relationships with all internal and external departments. Works with departmental leadership to facilitate a customer centric approach to business needs.

• Works with suppliers to emphasize a code of conduct that fosters the highest standard of business practice.

• Guides activities of department through identification and resolution of operational problems, evaluation of departmental effectiveness and development or improvement of work methods.

• Performs cost and/or benefit analysis to substantiate decisions for product selection. Works with appropriate teams to ensure seamless integration of supply decisions.

• Acts on behalf of the director as a resource to all clinical and non-clinical staff regarding non-salary expense management by participating as member of all expense reduction committees and through independent work with all hospital staff to coordinate and facilitate implementation of non-salary expense reduction opportunities.

• Implements strategic goals developed for the department and communicates vision and direction for department and strategy for achieving these goals.

• Mentors departmental staff by setting performance goals, clarification of responsibilities, identification of continuing education needs and regular communication.

• Assists managers with Human Resource functions of department in accordance with UTSW Medical Center and University Hospitals Human Resource policy and procedures.

• Evaluates expense reduction goals in cooperation with departmental leadership ad monitors results.

• Assists in monitoring of inventory and PAR levels to ensure patient care is not impeded.

• Reviews workload and quality indicators for each materials management function.

• Assists in development and justification of materials management operating and capital budgets.

• Understands and meets deadlines.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Work is performed primarily in a hospital or hospital clinic environment. Walking, standing, bending, turning and stooping.
