Job Description

Purpose of Position:
This position is to support the Safety Director in the development and implementation of the hospital safety program by overseeing the hospital hazardous materials and waste program and coordinating response to hazardous materials emergencies as well as conducting incident investigations and data analysis.

Duties and responsibilities:
1. Provide the oversight to the hospital hazardous material and waste management including the development and implementation of hospital policies and programs; and work with consultants and vendors to manage the waste and disposal and work with department to improve compliance.
2. Develop and implement hazardous material emergency response plan; maintain documents to ensure regulatory compliance including regulatory filing pertaining HAZMAT activities.
3. Administrate the hospital respiratory protection program; conduct personal exposure monitoring for hazardous chemicals and take action to
4. Investigate employee complaints; conduct risk assessments; respond to emergencies; and preform clean-up for hazardous material spill
5. Participate in safety rounds and regulatory surveys or inspections; develop plan of corrections for deficiencies.
6. Coordinate with HR to ensure that PESH (OSHA) SH900 Log is maintained accurately and kept current, and assist in investigating and evaluating employee accidents and incidents to determine those events that meet the criteria for PESH recording and corrective actions. Prepare reports for various hospital committees or as requested.
7. Design and maintain databases and perform analysis and prepare summary reports and statistics for Safety and Environmental Surveillance rounds, including tracking for corrective action/resolution of identified problems.
8. Prepare agendas and take minute of the Environment of Care and other committee meetings, and ensure that all records and supporting documents are received and filled. Distribute minutes and relevant documents.
9. Conduct employee training on various topics and attend committee meetings as assigned.
10. Assist in development and implementation of hospital policies and programs and maintain a safe and supportive environment of care.
11. Provide administrative support to the Safety Director and assume other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Emergency Management, Disaster Management,
Public Health, Public or Business Administration or a related discipline; and three (3) years of experience in
emergency preparedness planning and management, or environmental and occupational health and safety or
other directly related experience in a healthcare environment; or
2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in disciplines, as listed in #1 above; and four
(4) years of experience, as described in #1 above.
3. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Independent Study courses IS-100, 200, 700 and
800.
