The employee will support the physician in the delivery of health care by performing a variety of clerical and clinical tasks, with more emphasis on the clinical aspect of the office practice. This includes the planning, coordinating and facilitating of patient care activities for patients of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
This position requires providing service to the following age population(s) Adolescent through frail elderly in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.
  • Provides primary support to the attending physician during outpatient clinic hours
  • Clinic roles include patient pre-screening with history taking and appropriate examination techniques, cast application/removal, appropriate sports orthosis application, staple and suture removal
  • Assists the physician with manipulation and setting of fractures by supporting the fractured area and applying counter traction
  • Assists in facilitating patient flow during clinic hours, including escorting patient to exam rooms and obtaining patient information
  • Ensures that the clinic area is kept neat and clean at all times
  • Assists and measures inpatients and outpatients with special orthopedic appliances
  • Responsible for ordering supplies and keeping proper stock levels in clinic
  • Establishes and maintains courteous, cooperative relationships with the public, patients and personnel
  • Assists in preoperative and post-operative education for the surgical patient
  • Instructs patients on the proper care of their casts and use of orthopedic appliances such as crutches, braces,etc.
  • Advises physicians, nurse managers of the development of potential problems including obvious wound problems, patient discomfort, or problems with orthopedic devices
  • Attends Department of Orthopedic Surgery Grand Rounds
  • Functions as a backup to other clinical staff when necessary
  • Utilizes other clinical staff and physicians for direction when appropriate
  • Participates in the orientation and training of new Department of Orthopedic Surgery staff as appropriate
  • Completes required patient charge forms for supplies
  • Participates in departmental efforts to improve patient satisfaction as appropriate
  • Adheres to the department and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the development and revision of departmental policies and procedures
  • Actively supports the goals of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery
  • Administrative duties include follow-up communications with patients, insurance authorization, patient scheduling including the facilitation of referrals generated from all contracted education institutions
  • Other complimentary roles the certified athletic trainer provides are therapeutic care to individuals suffering injuries as a result of active lifestyle by utilizing modalities and therapeutic exercise upon referral to relieve pain, prevent disability, develop and improve skills and restore function
  • Position, prep, and drape patients by using accepted practices and techniques in order to prepare the patient for surgery.
  • Assist the surgeon as first or second assistant by using accepted surgical practices and techniques.
  • Assist he surgeon during reductions by supplying and applying the appropriate materials
  • Apply and manage poster-operative dressings on wounds following aseptic techniques.
  • This position generally requires providing service to adolescent, adult and older adult age populations in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served
  • This position requires the employee to accept flexible scheduling, within a biweekly pay period, which may include days that will be greater or less than eight hours
  • Travel to ALL Einstein Regional Orthopedic Surgery locations
  • Perform other job-related activities as required


Qualifications

Education/Training/Experience:

The Athletic Trainer will have successfully completed an accredited ATC program, will hold a Bachelor's Degree r entry level Master's Degree and will have training and experience commensurate with the expectations of the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics.

Licenses/Certifications:

It is required that he/she maintain a current certification from the NATA, BCLS Certification and any other relevant certifications/licensures to perform basic job duties.

Conditions of Employment

Since this position will require the selected candidate to engage in regular contact with children in the form of care, guidance, supervision or training, you will be required to meet the requirements of the Child Protective Services Act, including the Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check, the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare child abuse criminal background clearance, and an FBI finger print based federal criminal records check. The selected candidate will not be allowed to commence working until all three (3) are completed satisfactorily.
