The Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing optimal healthcare services to professional hockey players. The services provided will be at the forefront of development and delivery of care, prevention, rehabilitation, and health care administration services. This Head Athletic Trainer will report directly to the General Manager and Head Coach. This position is expected to have a close operational relationship with the coaching staff as well as with all hockey operations personnel.

Professional Practice Responsibilities
  • Manage care, prevention, rehabilitation, and health care administration services.
  • Foster proactive and collaborative work with other performance team members (team physicians, performance coaches, nutritionists, mental skills coaches, massage therapists) to achieve optimal health, well-being, and performance of the players; including but not limited to injury prevention, rehabilitation, return to play activities, recovery, and performance enhancement.
  • Create processes and deliver tangible and timely information to key personnel related to athlete health status, performance readiness, and physical capacities.
  • Ensure that emergency response, planning, and preparedness are at the highest possible state of readiness.
  • Employ documentation practices regarding medical service delivery and communications.
  • Maintain daily communication, and establish reporting parameters, with the performance team members and the coaching staff as directed.
  • Advise on annual budgetary matters related to equipment and supplies.
  • Risk management practices by maintaining accurate and timely records related to services delivered.
  • Manage worker's compensation claims associated with player injury as directed.
  • Uphold and audit compliance with all NHL/AHL guidelines associated with services supported or delivered.
  • Coordinate and assist player accompaniment to medical appointments as required.
  • Inventory, audit, and manage medical supplies and medications per Club and AHL guidelines.
  • Oversee the department's daily operational needs and ensure that they are being met with the highest possible standard of professionalism, care, and ethics.
  • Deliver other duties as assigned.


The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
  • University-degree (masters preferred) NATA certification, valid PA state license.
  • Valid BLS certification (additional emergency medical training and certifications preferred);
  • CPR/AED certification is required; additional certifications in emergency care are a plus.
  • 3 years or more relevant post-license work experience;
  • Ability to work in team environment with strong leadership experience is essential;
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills;
  • High availability to travel;
  • Knowledge of the electronic medical records systems.
