We are seeking an Attorney for our AdvertisingClaims Substantiation Counsel to join our Claims Substantiation team in our Clark, New Jersey Research facility.

As an Attorney in our Claims Substantiation Counselteam, your main responsibilities are:
  • Provide claims guidance to our product innovation and development teams, applying laws, regulations, and guidance from Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and National Advertising Division (NAD) of the Better Business Bureau, identifying and analyzing potential risks.
  • Independently evaluate and validate marketing claims for a diverse portfolio of products, ensuring alignment with FTC, FDA, and NAD regulations.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal and compliance reviews of advertising materials across all platforms (TV, digital, print, etc.), proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks.
  • Stay abreast of emerging legal trends, regulatory changes in advertising law, and litigations potentially impacting our business, proactively sharing knowledge and analysis with the team and internal stakeholders.
  • Act as principal contact person for the Corporate US legal team, assisting in defending claims-related legal challenges (litigations) and in reviewing scientific material used by competitors in their defense, coordinating the support to Legal within the team and within R&I.
  • Review test reports, test designs and literature to determine if sufficient for claims substantiation and support.
  • Contribute to the creation of robust substantiation dossiers for regulatory authorities in the US and internationally.
  • Collaborate with international legal colleagues to navigate global advertising regulations and ensure consistency across markets.
  • Team with in-house experts to explore and develop new types of product claims
  • Keeps management informed of escalating issues.
  • Assist management with formulating and implementing policy.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.


To Succeed in this Position, You Have:
  • A completed Advanced Degree or Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school is required.
  • Bar admission in at least one state is required
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in advertising law, regulatory compliance, or a related field, in the industry: cosmetics/personal care, pharmaceutical, consumer healthcare products or food.
  • A strong understanding of FTC, FDA, and NAD regulations and experience applying them to marketing and advertising claims.
  • Scientific background preferred.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively identify and recommend solutions to problems.
  • Collaborative, strategic, organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work in a cross functional role and to interact effectively across highly matrixed global organization.
  • Flexible and adaptable; ability to work in an exhilarating, fast-paced environment.
  • Multi-lingual. English fluency, Portuguese, French and/or Spanish would also be a plus.
  • Authorization to work in the United States on a full-time, permanent, ongoing basis without the need for legal sponsorship now or in the future (required)
