Position Summary

Old World Wisconsin is a 600-acre outdoor living history museum located in Eagle, Wisconsin. Guests explore homes, farms, and businesses that come from across Wisconsin, exploring stories of place and perseverance from the 1840s to the 1930s. With a focus on hands exploration and immersive spaces, OWW is a celebrated destination for families and friends making new memories, sharing stories, and connecting to Wisconsin's past as they get inspired for their own futures. Staff work in historic indoor and outdoor spaces in the beauty of the Kettle Moraine State Forest to bring history to life for tens of thousands of guests each summer.

Duties:

The Bartender supports the vision of the Wisconsin Historical Society by assisting guests of Old World Wisconsin at our daily operation and private events with beverage needs and locations across the site. The bartender reports to the Food and Beverage manager.

Set up and operate bar stations at event locations serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in a responsible manner.
  • Greet and welcome all guests. Serve guests in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages consistent with the attraction's standard drink recipes.
  • Check identification of guests to make sure they meet age requirements for purchase of alcohol products.
  • Determine when a guest may have had too much alcohol and follow procedures to ensure the guest's safety.
  • Be able to operate POS system and provide sales assistance at sales station. Ensure all guests are properly charged. Accept payment and give change; completing cash, check and bankcard transactions according to established procedure. Account for all revenue collected during the day. Account for overages or shortages in the receipts for the day, documenting discrepancies.
  • Wash glassware and utensils after each use.
  • Clean and sanitize event work stations before, during and after each event. Maintain a safe, clean and sanitized work and guest service environment in all event spaces.
  • Assist in receiving and organizing stocks and displays of beverages.
  • Assist in keeping all prep, storage and service areas organized, clean and sanitary.
  • Maintain strict and accurate inventories of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and bar supplies.
Assist in Food Service Operations including banquets, picnics, food stands, grill stations and café service.
  • Assist in serving food to guests.
  • Learn and work in compliance with food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Assist in the regular set up and tear down of event tables, chairs, and other equipment to prepare the event facility for operation and public use.
Provide museum, event and food service information to guests
  • Be well versed in programs and daily events and be able to relay the information to guests in a clear and helpful manner.
  • Be knowledgeable of facility rental, event and food service information and be able to relay the information to guests in a clear and helpful manner.
  • Facilitate contact between event sales team and potential clients.

Salary Information

Pay is $15.00 per hour with an weekend differential of 80 cents per hour. This classification is in schedule and class 03-09.

Please note this is a Limited Term Employment position so it does not include paid time off or benefits upon hire.

Job Details

A criminal background check will be conducted by WHS prior to an offer of employment to determine if the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job.

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and limited to 1,039 hours. This position will be part time and average 30 hours per week.

Wisconsin residency is required for Limited Term Employment positions.

Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to permanent civil service classified positions and do not lead to permanent status.

WHS does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of State Law concerning sale of alcoholic beverages.
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safety standards.
  • Have a current and valid bartender's license.
  • Ability to mix and pour drinks accurately, quickly and without waste.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for providing great guest experiences. Customer service experience preferred.
  • Ability to do basic mathematical computations, handle money, and operate a point-of-sale system.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be available to work days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work with minimum guidance and supervision.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team with all food service members.
  • Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors in air conditioned and non-air conditioned spaces and in hot or cold weather.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, to stand for extended periods of time and to climb up and down stairs carrying 20 lbs.
