HDR Engineering is looking for a Biological Resources Project Manager to join our growing and nationally ranked team of engineering and environmental professionals in our Southern California Area. In California, our environmental professionals primarily support and/or provide planning and design, survey, and permitting services associated with the following Client sectors:
HDR's immediate assignment is for the environmental professional to perform and or manage the following biological and ecological services for federal, state and local clients:
Primary Responsibilities
This position will be based in Los Angeles, Irvine, or San Diego, California and primarily focused on projects in California, with opportunities throughout the Southwest Region. The candidate should have technical expertise in the previously mentioned biological and ecological services, project management experience, ability to support field survey work, and demonstrate strong technical writing skills. In addition, our local engineers and environmental professionals work side by side throughout the project planning and final design deliverable stages; therefore, additional responsibilities will include the following:

HDR Engineering is looking for a Biological Resources Project Manager to join our growing and nationally ranked team of engineering and environmental professionals in our Southern California Area. In California, our environmental professionals primarily support and/or provide planning and design, survey, and permitting services associated with the following Client sectors:
- Water supply management
- Pump stations and pipelines
- Wastewater
- Water treatment
- Dams, levees, and civil design
HDR's immediate assignment is for the environmental professional to perform and or manage the following biological and ecological services for federal, state and local clients:
- Section 404/401 aquatic resource inventories (a.k.a. wetland and other Waters of the U.S. Delineations CRAM) and associated permitting
- USFWS ESA Section 7 and/or Section 10 Consultation (Biological Assessment surveys and reporting)
- Habitat mitigation planning for sensitive biological resources, rare flora and fauna, and wetlands
Primary Responsibilities
This position will be based in Los Angeles, Irvine, or San Diego, California and primarily focused on projects in California, with opportunities throughout the Southwest Region. The candidate should have technical expertise in the previously mentioned biological and ecological services, project management experience, ability to support field survey work, and demonstrate strong technical writing skills. In addition, our local engineers and environmental professionals work side by side throughout the project planning and final design deliverable stages; therefore, additional responsibilities will include the following:
- Perform scientific/environmental project assignments requiring application of moderately complex objectives and limited variables
- Conduct biological field surveys, data interpretation and analysis, and plan and manage written environmental reports,
- Manage task assignments and or projects to profit and client success,
- Demonstrate leadership skills and ability to work in a team environment in the office and/or field,
- Gain an understanding of and perform field work to aid in the design of new overhead and underground transmission and distribution power lines and associated facilities
- Interact with clients, customers, and local office personnel, and
- Work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in the natural resource sector
- A minimum of 2 years related project management experience
- BA/BS in biology, ecology, botany, or other natural resource related field
- Strong writing and organizational skills (writing sample will be required)
- Up to 50% travel time within California, valid driver's license,
- Ability to perform field work in rugged terrain and or remote areas, and
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 15 years of experience of conducting biological resources impact analysis and regulatory permitting in California.
- Field data collection expertise in wildlife species, habitat, and wetlands and streams using GPS units.
- Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), Certified Botanist, or Certified Wildlife Biologist.
- Local Southern California candidates preferred.
- Ability to perform focused/protocol surveys and/or California Rapid Assessment Method.
- Experience with GIS software.
