Job Description:

The Biological Scientist II position will be an advanced level position in the Zolotukhin Research Laboratory. The incumbent is expected to be able to 1. Complete laboratory experiments as directed by the Principal Investigator 2. Ensure the completion of assigned experiments following provided timelines; 3. Collate data for review and present preliminary finds to the Principal Investigator; 4. Present researching findings
to PI and at laboratory meetings; 5. Maintain laboratory safety programs and train personnel in laboratory safety techniques; 6. Actively patriciate in the writing of grants, papers, and statements of work; 7. Assist in adherence to regulatory compliance standards; and 8. Serve of the Laboratory Manager by ordering supplies, coordinating volunteers, etc.

The Biological Scientist II Must be able to perform the following essential functions:

Research Activities:
-Complete research activities to ensure adherence to the project/study timeline(s).
-Provide regular updates to the Principal Investigator.
-Cultivate/Manage the expansion/use of cell lines following established laboratory methods.
-Conduct molecular cloning experiments following established laboratory methods. Independently
develop methods/techniques to troubleshoot errors.
-Complete plasmid purification related activities, primer design related activities, RNA and DNA isolation
related activities, and perform real-time PCR related activities with moderate to minimal supervision.
-Prepare and titer recombinant Adeno-associated virus stocks following established laboratory methods.-Analyze specific proteins using Simple Western Jess apparatus and protocols (ProteinSimple).
-Participate in vitro studies exploring transfection of novel vectors.
-Search scientific literature to select and modify methods and procedures most appropriate for research goals.
-Maintain accurate laboratory records that record research methods, procedures, and results.

Laboratory / Regulatory Compliance:
-Responsible for monitoring daily operations of the laboratory.
-Monitor and ensure regulatory compliance for all lab activities.
-Order and reconcile of laboratory supplies in advance of planned experiment.
-Responsible for coordinating and scheduling personnel/volunteer lab activities to achieve research objective.
-Maintaining, update and follow laboratory Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) as needed

Scholarly/Administrative Work:
-Collaborate with the PI in completion of technical reports, research papers, scholarly articles, abstracts, or recommendations.
-Collaborate with the PI in completion of figures for presentations, publications, or grants.
-Collaborate with the PI in completion of grant proposals and progress reports to funding agencies.

Expected Salary:

$45,600 - $49,800 annually; commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field.
