Job Description:

The position will support a US Department of Education program that is playing a major role in modernizing America's Federal Student Aid (FSA) Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Award Eligibility Determination (AED) system that GDIT is developing determines who is eligible for aid and assists in determining the amount of aid students can receive. AED will replace the legacy system and will receive FAFSA data, receive FAFSA match data from FSA and other federal agency systems, receive results, determine eligibility for federal aid, provide web services, and communicate data and outputs to other FSA systems for further analysis and reporting.

GDIT's implementation of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) emphasizes understands the need for compliance, and extensive traceability while providing an agile, lean systems, iterative environment for product development. On the AED Program, this will be accomplished by implementing the SAFe for Large Solutions model. This will progress from Requirement, to Epic, to Feature, to Story, to Release.

We are seeking an experienced SAFe Agile Product Manager to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework), with proven experience in managing product lifecycles, defining product vision, and driving the execution of strategic initiatives. The SAFe Agile Product Manager will collaborate closely with stakeholders, development teams, and leadership to deliver high-quality solutions that align with business goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Define and communicate the product vision, strategy, and roadmap in alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, prioritize features, and manage the ART backlog.
  • Act as the voice of the customer to ensure the product meets user needs and delivers value.
  • Work closely with Agile teams to plan and execute Program Increments (PIs) and Iterations.
  • Participate in PI Planning sessions, providing clarity and direction on product priorities and goals.
  • Continuously engage with customers, end-users, and other stakeholders to gather feedback and validate product solutions.
  • Monitor and measure product performance, making data-driven decisions to optimize and improve.
  • Facilitate communication between cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment and transparency.
  • Manage product lifecycle from ideation to release, including feature prioritization, release planning, and post-release evaluation.
  • Ensure compliance with SAFe principles and practices, promoting Agile best practices within the organization.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, addressing impediments that may impact product delivery.
Minimum/General Experience/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in managing projects following Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, Extreme Programming, and SAFe
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, particularly SAFe.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and be effective at communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Moderate knowledge with Agile tools such as Jira, Confluence, or similar.
  • Goal oriented, proactive, innovative, hardworking, and patient
Preferred Requirements:
  • Product Owner certification (CSPO, PSPO, SAFe PO/PM)
  • Certified SAFe Product Manager/Product Owner (SAFe POPM) or equivalent certification.
  • 5+ years of experience in product management within an Agile environment.
  • Strong understanding of SAFe principles and practices, with hands-on experience in a SAFe organization.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering products in a scaled Agile framework.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with tactical execution, managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Experience working with Agile tools such as Jira, or similar.

The likely salary range for this position is $72,100 - $97,548. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
