The Central Region's Lands unit is looking to fill a Scientific Aid position that would assist local Environmental Scientists with a broad range of biological and land management tasks with a focus on special status species and habitat conservation. This position will provide valuable experience assisting our staff with the live-trapping and handling of threatened & endangered animals, deployment and analysis of wildlife camera traps and other various biological monitoring techniques. Other required tasks may including assisting staff with endangered species research projects, data entry and analysis, document preparation, library research, and specimen preparation. Land management tasks such as performing routine maintenance on Department-owned lands, including trash pick-up, sign posting, and weed control will also be required. The Headquarters for this position is the DFW Fresno office with the primary geographical focus of this position in Fresno, Tulare and Kern counties, but work may be assigned in any part of the Region and occasionally statewide.

The Fish and Wildlife Scientific Aid classification is a non-testing classification.

Working Conditions
Ability to use a computer, including familiarity with Microsoft Office software. Responsibilities are split between office and fieldwork. Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions, operate , and walk over uneven outdoor terrain carrying a 20 lb. backpack for up to 6 hours. Travel over uneven terrain, up and down steep terrain, long distances by foot in wet and cold weather to hot and dry weather. Occasional overnight travel to reach some project locations and willingness to wear a uniform may be required.
