Job Description

SCOPE OF POSITION
The VP, Chief Medical Officer will serve as the physician leader for their facility/facilities, ensuring effective delivery of care with the highest quality of medical outcomes. The VP, CMO will be a master at developing and building relationships. He/she will facilitate the development of positive relationships within the Medical Staff. Assuring quality medical outcomes and clinical excellence is a primary responsibility of this role. The VP, CMO provides effective leadership in facilitating Medical Staff interactions with each hospital's administration and governing boards. The VP, CMO assures effective and efficient delivery of quality medical care consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of Ballad Health.
The VP will assure quality medical outcomes and clinical excellence. The VP, CMO will develop and implement credentialing and privileging systems that are consistent with Ballad Health policies and procedures with a focus on competency-based credentialing. In addition, the VP will work with system CMO to develop and implement a peer review system based on continued Medical Staff education. The VP will address issues of medical care in their facility/facilities that may fall outside currently accepted standards. The VP will work with system CMO and regional administration to assure continuous readiness of the Medical Staff and associated clinical areas for all regulatory and accrediting bodies including Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The VP will work with system CMO to assure local and regional Medical Staff leaders are provided appropriate education and feedback regarding Medical Staff leadership. In addition, the VP will work with facility CEO(s) and formal Medical Staff leadership to address issues related to disruptive behavior and potential impairment. The individual will facilitate the adoption of clinical process improvement initiatives with the Medical Staff to achieve top decile performance for national reportable measures and to lead clinical effectiveness efforts, including clinical protocols, clinical benchmarking and best practice identification across the region. The VP will focus on aligning and engaging the employed and non-employed physicians in efforts to deliver the highest standard of medical care. This individual will work with the appropriate Director of Medical Staff Services and Director of Patient Resource Management to achieve outcomes and problem solve as appropriate. In conjunction with the Administrative Team, will lead Medical Staff process improvement initiatives to achieve top decile performance for patient, team member and physician satisfaction related to Medical Staff performance. Educates and leads the Medical Staff in process improvement initiatives to improve safety for all Stakeholders.
The VP, CMO will work with the system CMO, Administration, CEOs, and Medical Staff leaders at local facilities to assure high quality performance in Infection Prevention, Information Technology, and Patient Satisfaction. The VP will participate in opportunity analyses teams for joint ventures and other strategic relationships and initiatives involving internal and external medical groups. In addition, the VP will work closely with Strategic Planning, system administration, CEO(s) and Medical Staff to advance clinical systems and operations and serve as a resource for Business Development in the expansion of the referral base. The VP, CMO will provide leadership with the Medical Staff to facilitate adoption of key operational benchmarks for the health system.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduate from an accredited medical school, MD or DO degree is required as is Board Certification in one of the American Board of Medical Specialties. Additional education and coursework in management or business is desired. Completion of the Physician in Management series of the American Association for Physician Leadership is also desirable as is an advanced management degree; MMM, MBA, MHA, MPH, etc. Experience as a physician who has served in progressive Medical Staff leadership positions or at least two years as a physician executive. Knowledge of current trends in healthcare quality, EMR, and health system finance. Strong working knowledge of Medical Staff credentialiing and regulatory and legal processes. Strong negotiation and communication skills. Strong relationship skills to work with diverse constituents.
Valid and active MD or DO licensure in appropriate state
Additional Board Certification in on of the American Board of Medical Specialties
