CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAM WORKER

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED preferred
  2. Experience in food service operation preferred.
  3. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  4. Valid health certificate and recent positive results of a tuberculin test.
  5. Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457

FLSA STATUS : Non-exempt

REPORTS TO : CNP Manager, Principal, and CNP Director

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
  1. Knowledge of safety procedures, sanitation standards, food preparation methods and equipment used in school cafeterias.
  2. Ability to cooperate work effectively with co-workers, school faculty and staff and students.
  3. Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions.
  4. Ability to do simple mathematics.
  5. Ability to learn and use prescribed preparation methods of handling food supplies.
  6. Ability to read and interpret recipes and food serving instructions.
  7. Ability to use equipment timers and controls and ingredient scaling equipment.
  8. Ability to be a safe food handler, free of disease which may be transmitted by food.
  9. Ability to read chemical product sheets and follow required safety procedures while using and cleaning food preparation equipment.
  10. Ability to use food preparation equipment that dice, slice, cut, chip, fry, bake, steam, braise, broil, boil and puree using required manufacturer's safety recommendations.
  11. Ability to lift moderately heavy cases of food from the floor level to storage shelves located from one to five feet from the floor.
  12. Ability to use floor cleaning equipment to sweep, mop and/or scrub floors as needed.
  13. Ability to empty a 50-gallon trash receptacle into an 8-yard dumpster.
  14. Ability to use 6-foot step ladder for periodic cleaning of kitchen ventilation system.
  15. Ability to transfer extremely hot food pans from food preparation equipment to serving area.
  16. Physical dexterity, mobility, and strength to stoop, bend, lift, reach, and climb as needed to perform the essential functions of this position.
  17. Ability to work with both hands when assigned food preparation.
  18. Capable of working for six hours in a cold or hot and humid kitchen environment.
  19. Capable of standing for long periods of time on quarry floors during food preparation using work surfaces that are 48" above the floor.
  20. Ability to disassemble, clean and reassemble food preparation and cleaning equipment


JOB GOAL:

To understand the goals and purposes of the National Child Nutrition Program and to serve attractive and nutritious school meals in a clean, efficient manner.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepares and serves foods for the child nutrition program of the school assigned.
  2. Adheres to the food preparation schedules,
  3. Attends work on a regular basis and arrives on time.
  4. Adheres to work schedules and completes work assignments.
  5. Assists as directed with the operation, cleaning, set up, and storage of child nutrition program equipment.
  6. Assists in handling and storing foods, commodities, materials, supplies, and utensils.
  7. Serves students and CNP adult patrons in a friendly manner.
  8. Practices good personal hygiene and maintains all work areas in a clean and orderly manner.
  9. Attends required meetings, trainings, and work-related events.
  10. Demonstrates honesty, dependability, confidentiality, and appropriate speech and behavior.
  11. Assists with inventories, reports, special events, and CNP activities as appropriate.
  12. Reports problems, accidents, absences, injuries and concerns to appropriate supervisor.
  13. Performs assigned tasks to conserve school system and CNP resources.
  14. Participates cooperatively in projects to improve CNP services, solve problems, and increase efficiency.
  15. Follows attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.
  16. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other job-related responsibilities as may be assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :

The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's salary schedule.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's performance assessment procedures for support personnel.
