GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Clinical Research Coordinator will serve a primary role on various NIH-funded clinical research studies within the Pain and Neuroinflammation Imaging Laboratory at the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging. Working independently and collaboratively, they will be responsible for participant recruitment, scheduling and execution of study visits, study documentation, data collection and entry, preparation of reports, and performing administrative tasks as needed. The research projects aim to advance the understanding of central nervous system diseases including chronic pain (e.g., Gulf War Illness, carpal tunnel syndrome, painful trigeminal neuralgia, low back pain, knee osteoarthritis, long COVID, HIV), through the application of advanced neuroimaging techniques, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET).
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

• 1 year of previous research experience (including as part of an undergraduate program)
• Experience with neuroimaging data processing and analysis using FreeSurfer or FSL
• Prior wet lab, phone-screening, and/or clinical experience
• Familiarity with computational software (e.g., MATLAB, R)

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruit, screen, schedule and conduct study visits, and collect data from study participants.
- Manage IRB applications and follow regulatory guidelines per Good Clinical Practice.
- Monitor, pre-process, quality-control, and analyze behavioral and brain imaging data collected from the studies noted above.
- Perform miscellaneous lab operations and administrative duties such as ordering supplies.
- Handle and ship biospecimen (e.g., blood, saliva, urine) per lab safety and IATA guidelines.
- Prepare interim reports for grant agencies (e.g., NIH) and assist postdoctoral research fellows with manuscript preparation for publication in technical journals, presentations at professional field meetings/conferences, and further applied or theoretical research activities.
- Operate the combined MRI/PET scanner and collect neuroimaging data, under the supervision of the PI and/or senior members of the lab.
- As applicable, apply quantitative sensory testing to participants, such as pressure, electrical and thermal stimuli.
- As applicable, administer neurocognitive tasks and exams.

- Excellent attention to detail and organization skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work productively and problem-solve independently under minimal supervision
- Proficiency with computers (e.g., iOS, Windows) and databases (e.g., Microsoft Office)
- Personable demeanor and strong interpersonal skills for patient interaction

Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree required.
EXPERIENCE:
- New graduates with some relevant course/project work or those without any prior research experience will be considered for the Clinical Research Coordinator I position outlined above.
- Those with a minimum of 1-2 years of directly related work experience will be considered for a Clinical Research Coordinator II position.
