Job Description:

Lead :
Acts as supervisor in the absence of the supervisor. Coordination of the shift. Assigns tasks, oversee the
workflow and ensures work is being completed in a timely manner. Coordinates lunches and breaks to
ensure the area has coverage at all times when the supervisor is not present in the area and reports any
conflicts or issues directly to their supervisor.

Performs any duties needed to keep the accessioning and processing area running smoothly and
performing the work in an accurate, organized and timely manner. Coordinates special testing, such as,
athletic, molecular and QFT. Runs result reports and sends to the appropriate dept. Monitors error
queue reports for send out tests, troubleshooting and providing communication with send out lab for
results report.

Monitors courier drop offs and ensure runs are not missed. Monitors expected list to ensure everything is
received and communicated. Keeps track of issues and communicate with client services when frequent
issues occur. Follows up on salesforce issues. Monitors inventory and ordering supplies for send out
department.

Assists with oversight and daily processes for the Triage, Accessioning and Processing sections.
Responsible for training new staff members on the day/evening shift on the processing duties and
providing the proper instruction they need to complete their training list.

Troubleshoots and documents any issues that come up in the day/evening shift and reports any and all
issues that arise directly to their supervisor. Fills out Performance Variation Reports (PVRs) when
appropriate.

Provides assistance to draw stations/clinics on appropriate sample collection, processing and
transportation of samples. Provides assistance to Client Services department with technical questions to
assist clinics. Provides help with sorting and filing patient requisitions in appropriate areas.

CP Accessions/ Processing:
Prepares Clinical Pathology laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to
laboratory analysis and testing. Unpacks specimens from branches or ports and routes specimens by
type to various staging areas. Prepares all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory
departments or locations such as staging of specimens, centrifugation, separating serum, and blood
smears. Aliquots samples for departments. Prepares excess specimen samples for storage and resolves
and documents problem specimens.

Triage:
Receives and records all specimens/slides/blocks into daily receipt log; this includes checking bins in the
Shands Clinical Lab periodically throughout the day for additional samples.
Pre-accessions specimens, orders tests, prints out labels and attaches to paperwork and specimen
container, prints Test Order form - then delivers to appropriate lab along with specimen to designated
location. Forwards copy of report to appropriate in-house physician/lab.

Registration: Collects patient and insurance information and ensure required details are included on the forms. This position also verifies/confirms insurance information.

Special projects: Performs research, runs reports, provides data for, and assists management as requested.

Expected Salary:

Starting salary is between 17.75 - 18.06 plus evening shift differential.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant office experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Communication skills which will allow the prospective employee to interact with UF physicians, client
physicians, and other health professionals in a professional manner.

Ability to work in a potentially stressful environment with infectious and biohazardous materials.

Ability to quickly learn various aspects of Lab Operations. Knowledge of Medical terminology. Typing skills. Experience with electronic medical records, Epic, etc. Prior experience with laboratory specimen processing.
