Position Summary:
Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, provides direct physical care to patients encompassing the activities of daily living. Performs general nursing procedures, teaching, interventions, goal setting, and treatments (within scope of practice) and reports significant findings to the Registered Nurse (RN). Supports changes in clinical practices and assists the department director with implementing changes in the hospital policies and or practices. Participates in orientation of new staff as needed, ensures compliance, knowledge and adherence with hospital's policies and procedures, maintains competence in practice, participates in quality improvement programs, provides skin and hourly rounding to all patients, knowledgeable of growth, development and treatment needed in various populations served, utilizes universal precautions and ensures others do as well, ensures call lights are answered timely and report patient needs, which are outside the scope of practice to the appropriate personnel, Attends all required education, organizes care and assumes responsibility for assigned patients, demonstrates guest relations in communication, cooperation and providing assistance to patients, physicians, co-workers and visitors in a prompt and courteous manner (patient and family centered care), advocates and ensures patient's rights are upheld, identifies patient safety risks and ensures patient safety is maintained, obtains and records vital signs, patient weights, activities of daily living, intake and output, notifies RN and documents changes in patient's appearance or behavior, applies telemetry leads and troubleshooting if working on telemetry unit, proficient with braces and specialized equipment utilized by patients, transports patients as needed, facilitates flow in the Day Stay Unit/Peri-operative areas (i.e., assists in changing patients, bedding, cleaning and changing linen on gurneys, etc.), assists in monitoring mental health patients, and other duties as appropriately assigned by leadership.
Qualifications:
Required Training/Education/Experience/Certification: Passage of an approved Certified Nurse Attendant training program. CNA Certificate and BLS. High School or Equivalent.
Desired Training/Education/Experience/Certification: One year recent acute care Certified Nurse Attendant experience.
Communication is an essential skill requiring the ability to see, hear, and speak. Fluent in written and spoken English. Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
