Position Information

The Corpus Christi Area Office is seeking a Construction Recordkeeper who is analytical, loves attention to detail, and works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, this individual will be responsible for ensuring State and Federal contract compliance is being met on various construction projects. This individual will assist in developing and maintaining effective relationships with Contractors, Suppliers, and the General Public. This individual will also be accountable for managing, processing, and auditing (internally) major construction projects including recommending more efficient means of bookkeeping. Our record keeper team is exclusively office-based but is heavily involved with daily team collaboration.

Annual Salary Range

Construction Recordkeeper II (A15): $35,976 - $55,045

Construction Recordkeeper III (A17): $39,976- $61,399

Construction Recordkeeper IV (A19): $45,244- $72,408

This position is for (1) Construction Recordkeeper II, III or IV, depending on business needs and applicant qualifications. TxDOT reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on business needs and the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors.

Position Description

Maintains construction project records and processes related paperwork; reviews and modifies contract documents to reflect changes to original agreement; monitors records to verify compliance with state and federal laws; determines payments due contractor for work completed; maintains liaison with construction inspectors and contractor's staff and trains others. Work requires contact with the public. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:

Construction Recordkeeper II

  • May attend pre-construction meetings to instruct contractor's bookkeeper on record-keeping procedures.
  • Monitors contractors' compliance with federal requirements related to Equal Employment Opportunity and wages.
  • Monitors on-the-job training program and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise and Small Business Enterprise programs; submits required monthly reports.
  • Prepares and submits monthly and final estimates; checks calculations against work log and estimate form to verify work is completed before payment is made.
  • Prepares and types correspondence, reports and supporting documents; files, orders supplies and equipment.
  • Processes change orders, supplemental agreements, and extra work orders.
  • Sets up field record books for each construction project within assigned area.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.


Construction Recordkeeper III

In addition to the duties listed above

  • Keeps equipment mileage and service records and schedules equipment repairs.
  • May serve as a lead worker or project leader.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.


Construction Recordkeeper IV

In addition to the duties listed above

  • Composes correspondence, reports and supporting documents; files; orders supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains liaison with construction inspectors and contractor's staff to ensure project records accurately reflect changes and agreements.
  • Trains less experienced employees.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

All Levels

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Construction Recordkeeper II

Experience: 1 year construction record keeping, accounting. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent).

Construction Recordkeeper III

Experience: 2 years construction record keeping, accounting. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent).

Construction Recordkeeper IV

Experience: 4 years construction record keeping, accounting. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent).

Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and fingers
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
