UVAFinance seeks applicants for a Cost Accounting Analyst or Senior Cost Accounting Analyst . These key roles will engage in both day-to-day financial operations as well as strategic projects and will work with members of their teams and colleagues across UVAFinance and the University to support effective, compliant, and strategic fiscal management for the University of Virginia.

Description for Cost Accounting Analyst:

The Cost Accounting Analyst will provide support for the development of the University's annual fringe benefit proposal, the Federal Facilities and Administrative (F&A) rate proposal for grants and contracts, as well as the Indirect General & Administrative (G&A) cost allocations for Auxiliaries, Medical Center and University Physicians Group. The incumbent supports the accounting, review and analysis of recharge center rates, including annual reviews of existing recharge centers to ensure costs are being fully recovered in accordance with GAAP and federal cost accounting practices. Candidates must be willing to appropriately challenge the status quo, while effectively partnering and communicating with team members across Grounds.

Qualifications for Cost Accounting Analyst:

Education:
  • High school diploma, bachelor's degree preferred
Experience:
  • At least one year of relevant experience is required.
  • Experience with navigating competing priorities in a high-visibility office is preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders is preferred.
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation and reporting skills are required.
  • Ability to build relationships and develop internal and external partnerships is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) is required.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement processes are preferred.
  • Knowledge of UVA systems, including Workday, Adaptive, and/or UBI (Qlik) is a plus.
Description for Senior Cost Accounting Analyst:

The Senior Cost Accounting Analyst will be responsible for assisting development of the University's annual fringe benefit proposal, the Federal Facilities and Administrative (F&A) rate proposal for grants and contracts, as well as the Indirect General & Administrative (G&A) cost allocations for Auxiliaries, Medical Center and University Physicians Group. The incumbent supports the accounting, review and analysis of recharge center rates, including annual reviews of existing recharge centers to ensure costs are being fully recovered in accordance with GAAP and federal cost accounting practices. The successful candidate will have extensive experience working with complex financial models, be proficient in Microsoft Excel, as well as other ad hoc reporting tools. Candidates must be willing to appropriately challenge the status quo, while effectively partnering and communicating with team members across Grounds.

Qualifications for Senior Cost Accounting Analyst:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree
Experience:
  • At least five years of relevant experience is required. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in leadership of budget, treasury, financial operations, and/or financial reporting, especially in a higher education setting is required.
  • Proven experience with leading competing priorities in a high-visibility office.
  • Proven experience working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation and reporting skills are required.
  • Ability to build relationships and develop internal and external partnerships is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) is required.
  • Knowledge of GAAP/GASB, Uniform Guidance, and internal controls as they relate to business processes in higher education or federal agency preferred.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement processes are preferred.
  • Knowledge of UVA systems, including Workday, Adaptive, and UBI (Qlik) is a plus.
  • CMA, CFA, CTP, CPA, or other relevant certifications are a plus.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
