Data Catalog Analyst I-IV

The Data Catalog Analyst within the Enterprise Data & Analytics department is responsible for being part of a Data Catalog team involved in the successful resolution of daily workflow activities, including but not limited to metadata management & automations, participation with a Stewardship program, monitoring and continuous support for curation activities, maintenance of business terms & glossary in cooperation with business teams, as well as Integrations from/to Source/Target systems across multiple data domains.

The Data Catalog Analyst will utilize their communication skills to build collaborative business relationships with Data Owners/Stewards. The Analyst will work with the Owners/Stewards' and their curation-related activities with the established polices & procedures of the Data Governance Office (DGO), Compliance, Legal and Security departments to meet business needs.

The Data Catalog Analyst will be aware of the strategy, policy and procedures of the DGO, Compliance, Legal and Security teams, and will effectively & timely implement approved changes as needed.

Responsibilities

Data Catalog Analyst I-IV
  • Collaboration: Learn to work seamlessly with various teams, departments and stakeholders to achieve common data-related objectives
  • Communication: Good at conveying technical information clearly to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders. Develop active listening skills to gather requirements and address concerns
  • Problem solving: Demonstrate aptitude for identifying complex data issues and developing effective solutions, often in collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Data Catalog / Glossary Management: Maintains some aspects of the catalog design. Collaborate with data stewards, data owners, and data consumers to provide standardized definitions for common data terms/concepts and establish best practices, processes, and procedures in support of our Enterprise Business Glossary and Data Catalog.
  • Data Discovery and Searchability: Help to organize, tag, and index data assets, enabling users to find information quickly.
  • Data Asset Inventory: Work with business and technical SMEs to establish relationships between business assets, such as business terms, and data or technical assets, such as policy and reports, and assist with the documentation of data movement and data lineage of enterprise data assets.
  • Data Classification: Learn and implement procedures to harvest and curate data assets, including classifying mastered and reference data, identifying the authoritative source, and what and where sensitive data resides.
  • Data Quality Metadata : Learn to facilitate and collaborate with data stewards to define enterprise business terms and assist with bringing resolution to data quality concerns and issues. Work to ensure the Catalog includes updated information related to data quality, such as data profiling results, data cleansing history, and data quality rules to help users assess the reliability of a data asset.
  • Metadata Management: Learn to monitor & maintain metadata extracts, query log ingestion and profiling. Partner with IT and others to resolve anomalies.
  • Data Steward Management: Learn to facilitate and document data ownership roles, including elements, definitions, transformations, calculations, etc. to the appropriate functional Data Steward(s), ensuring all key participants are granted appropriate input rights.
  • Data Lineage Tracking: Participate in the deployment and ongoing maintenance of an Enterprise Data Catalog that addresses data lineage in support of privacy, security, regulatory, legal, and audit initiatives.
  • Data Impact Assessment: Assist in the assessment of potential impact of changes to data assets.
  • Data Access and Permissions : Learn and participate in the implementation and enforcement of data access policies to protect data privacy and security.
  • Metrics: Know what KPIs are defined to manage data integrity, and SLA adherence.
  • Attention to detail: Learn to focus on accuracy & precision when managing critical data elements
  • Change management: Learn how to plan, organize and execute data management projects within specified timelines and budgets
  • Training: Remain current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and innovations in data governance, data cataloging, and data privacy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Operations and/or Supply Chain or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 0-1 year working within a Data Governance organization, or equivalent experience


Professional Certification(s)
  • (optional) Certification in Data Management
  • (optional) DAMA Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)
  • (optional) Data Governance and Stewardship Professional (DGSP)


Technical Skills and Knowledge:
  • Good skills/knowledge/configuration experience with Catalog Systems and Integration tools, preferably Alation
  • Good data analysis and critical thinking skills
  • Process Automation & Quality Improvement mindset
  • Ability to form relationships, collaborate and influence across the enterprise
  • Good SQL skills, BI tools, preferably Power BI and/or Tableau
