About the Data Engineering Team:

Our team is at the forefront of managing the entire lifecycle of data, from telemetry and event collection to providing data platforms and analytics. We collaborate with various engineering and external teams to build tech solutions that span from data collection to data platform management, utilizing a mix of first-party platforms, third-party analytics products like the Adobe stack, and custom-engineered internal Microsoft tools.

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Data Engineering Team Lead to over see our Product Management and Development team. This role involves leading a team of data engineers, technical product managers and developers to de sign, build and maintain robust data pipelines, tools and platforms . Candidates will have a profound background in data pipeline technologies, including big data solutions and telemetry. They will oversee the planning and maintenance of our features, ensuring they generate revenue by aligning strategies from feature planning to telemetry, data pipelines, reporting, and analysis. Driving innovation by leveraging data as a channel for ROI and enhanced customer satisfaction is crucial.

The role of the Data Engineering Team Lead involves building and managing end-to-end data pipelines, from Telemetry to Reporting. The successful candidate will work closely with key engineering partner teams from Xbox, Stores, and various engineering groups, as well as Marketing Business, Privacy, and External 3rd Party Teams like Adobe.

Responsibilities:

1. Team Leadership and Development:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of data engineers, product managers, and developers.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
2. Product Management:
  • Work closely with stakeholders to define product vision, strategy, and roadmaps.
  • Prioritize and manage the product backlog, ensuring alignment with business objectives .
  • Conduct market research and analysis to inform product development.
3. Data Engineering:
  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of scalable data pipelines and ETL processes.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and security across all data engineering initiatives.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver solutions.
4. Data Governance:
  • Establish and maintain policies and procedures to ensure integrity and compliance with regulations.
5. Innovation and Continuous Improvement :

Stay informed about the latest technologies and trends, including:
  • Big Data and Data Platforms : Cosmos, Azure Data Lake, Kusto, SQL, Azure Data Factory, and adherence to Data Privacy guidelines.
  • Telemetry: Knowledge of front-end development languages such as HTML, CSS, C#, and Angular JS.
  • Analytics and Reporting Platforms: Proficiency in Power BI, Fabric, and familiarity with Adobe Analytics and Data Science concepts is advantageous .
6. Project Management:
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and within
  • scope.
  • Identify and mitigate risks and issues throughout the project lifecycle.
7. Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders regarding data engineering products and services.
  • Communicate project status, updates, and milestones to management and other stakeholders.
  • Gather and incorporate feedback from users to continuously improve products and services.

Qualifications:

Required/minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data engineering, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 4+ years people management experience.
  • 3+ years experience data pipeline technologies, big data solutions (e.g., Cosmos, Azure Data Lake, Kusto, SQL, ADF or similar)
Additional or preferred qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos).
  • 8+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 4+ years people management experience.
  • Understanding of UI/ Ux front end technologies ( e.g , HTML, CSS, C#, and Angular JS)
  • Understanding of data privacy laws and best practices.
  • Problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.
  • Proficient communication and interpersonal skills.
Technical Program Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
