About the Position:

The Desktop Support Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting and triaging computer hardware and software issues, loading software, configuring computers, peripherals, and mobile computing devices, and assisting customers (Faculty, Staff & Students of the University) with technology questions or issues concerning computers (both MAC and PC platforms), printers and other technologies. This position is responsible for prioritizing requests for assistance, providing documentation as needed for customers on use of hardware and software, and consulting with customers to help determine technology needs. The position also provides emergency assistance with basic AV troubleshooting in Classrooms.

This role is an on-campus, in-person position. The hours for this position are 10:00am - 6:00pm, Monday - Friday.

Essential Functions:
  • Provide hardware and software troubleshooting for Mac and PC environments including imaging machines, troubleshooting software issues, connecting devices to various networking resources, diagnosing and resolving hardware issues, and other tasks to ensure computer systems are functioning properly
  • Provide emergency classroom support assistance with AV technology
  • Assist in maintaining the computer inventory and proactively addressing issues pertaining to overall computer maintenance
  • Continued development of knowledge and skills through professional development opportunities and other duties as assigned.
  • Provide guidance to faculty and staff on technology solutions and processes
Education and Experience:

A high school diploma, or equivalent, is required. A bachelor's degree is preferred.

A minimum of three (3) years of experience is required. Previous work experience in desktop computer installation and support for Windows and Mac platforms and experience in customer service is required.

Experience with current Microsoft and Apple OS and standard applications and understanding of domain configurations, group policies and client management solutions is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Candidate should possess the ability to learn new technologies and apply knowledge in support of the organization and customers. Solid knowledge of MS Office tools and applications is required. Excellent troubleshooting skills needed.

Preferred certifications in Microsoft (windows, MOS) or Apple OS or Applications (MCT, MP)
