The Development Director provides leadership in financial development efforts for assigned regions to advance the YMCA's mission. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in fundraising, marketing, planning and/or prospecting.
  • Demonstrated strong persuasive written and verbal communication skills and display excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to engage others in support of the mission; establish strong collaborative relationships and work with others, including all levels of executives and volunteers, in a cooperative and effective manner.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities and projects, adhering to deadlines and meet goals.


Essential Functions

  • Manage an assigned personal portfolio of gifts using Moves Management strategies to include identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, negotiation and stewardship.
  • Develop a personalized communications plan for assigned donors. This should include regular touch points, invitations to tour Y programs/facilities, regular meetings, etc.
  • Develop and lead an assigned portfolio of high-level special projects including but not limited to:
    • capital and comprehensive campaigns.
    • planned giving, sponsorship support.
    • special events.
    • data analysis.
    • donor drives.
    • strategic partnership opportunities.
  • Develop strategies and support efforts surrounding Fundraising at the branch level including but not limited to:
    • Lead process for development and implementation of Annual Campaign plan.
    • Develop comprehensive timeline with benchmarks.
    • Develop Campaign collateral.
    • Provide training for branch-level staff and volunteers.
    • Create a strategy for volunteer recruitment and engagement through the Campaign in conjunction with Community Executives.
    • Implement a 12-month communication plan for donors.
    • Provide support for Community Executives managing Major Gift portfolios and branch campaigns, to include tools, training and troubleshooting. Responsible for prospecting and pipeline development in assigned regions for new funding sources.
    • Responsible for coaching a fundraising volunteer cohort, including branch advisory boards, by implementing training sessions around cause and giving.
