The Director, FPA is a key member of the team managing financial planning and analysis for MLS and SUM. The individual will act as the Finance Business liaison for several departments within MLS/SUM specific to projections, long-range planning, and budgeting. The role should balance being a good business partner for the departments with ensuring sound fiscal process and discipline throughout the organization. This role will lead to comprehensive company-wide analyses, deliver critical financial insights, and support decision-making to propel MLS and SUM towards sustained growth and evolution.


Responsibilities


  • Work continuously as a finance liaison with several departments providing monthly performance/expense management reporting as well as other key actionable metrics.
  • Coordinate and manage FP&A's role in the month-end process to analyze actual results of sales and expense details versus the budget/forecast and provide explanations for variances for all team members.
  • Provide analytical, accounting and reporting support to the accounting group, including monthly fluctuation explanations of actuals vs. plan/forecast.
  • Support the maintenance of company-wide budgets & forecasts in Hyperion, including consolidated and company-by-company views.
  • Analyze business opportunities for viability and review contracts to determine financial impact.
  • Assist in building management reports for the Board and executive team.
  • Develop and coordinate various financial and accounting reports and projects. Gain deep understanding of department roles and responsibilities and ensure responsible fiscal management and effective spending.
  • Evaluate the impact of spending on a project basis across departments, ensuring proper fiscal management and effective spending across multiple team members.
  • Manage and mentor one FP&A direct report responsible for League Office departments.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree; MBA a plus
  • 12+ years of experience in the Accounting or Finance field


Required Skills
  • Extensive experience in FP&A.
  • Superior organization, project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity and compliance.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast paced, team environment and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally.
  • The role will require interaction with all staff levels, including C suite executives. A professional demeanor, the ability to negotiate sensitive matters and the ability to work collaboratively are a must.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook


Desired Skills
  • High-level excel skills.
  • Experience with General Ledger systems such as Great Plains, NetSuite, etc.
  • Experience with Hyperion or other Financial Planning tools.
  • Experience in the sports industry.


Total Rewards

Starting Base Salary: $130,000 - 165,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
