The Director of Learning & Development plays a key leadership role within our organization and is responsible for creating and championing the learning & development strategy to attract, build, grow, and retain the talent pipeline across all functions and levels within Stop & Shop.

This role oversees the people, processes, and programs that care for growing the leadership capability of our diverse talent pool to drive business and enhance the customer experience. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to create, launch, manage, and refine leadership programs for multiple audiences that are aligned to our leadership competencies and employee value proposition.

This position reports to the Vice President of Talent Management and will have high visibility with various levels of leadership playing a significant role in creating an exceptional associate experience impacting our almost 50,000 associates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, monitor, and promote the multi-year Learning & Talent Strategy by delivering timely and high-quality results and evaluating for continuous improvement.
  • Partner with leaders in Talent Acquisition, Associate Communication, Diversity & Inclusion, and Talent Engagement to ensure appropriate connections in strategies, deliverables, and messages.
  • Lead and support the performance and development of Learning Specialists responsible for the creation, coordination, and administration of key programs. Learning Advisors responsible for supporting the regional onboarding of new store management associates.
  • Lead the content strategy, instructional design, development, and facilitator quality for our premiere Leadership Academies .
  • Create, drive, and maintain organizational change to introduce and embed leadership behaviors and competencies in all talent programs and processes.
  • Lead the creation of consistent orientation, onboarding guides, and overall new-to-role experience for all functions to ignite brand pride, cultural awareness, and our employee value proposition.
  • Establish and implement consistent learning and development brand standards including visual treatment, design principles, writing standards, and evaluation practices.
  • Create and drive learning and development reinforcement methods to support the adoption of new or enhanced leadership capabilities.
  • Facilitate in-person and virtual leadership development training and reinforcement sessions as needed.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on program key results to support program objectives and ensure initiatives are driving program growth and performance.
  • Evaluate, identify, and partner with vendors as needed to procure, create, or customize content.
Experience, Qualifications & Skills of Strength:

  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in Learning & Development, with multiple years of experience in a strategic and team leadership role.
  • Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Organizational Development, Education, or equivalent preferred.
  • Proven ability to build and manage individual and team performance, development, collaboration, and engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to flex between strategic and tactic priorities with proven ability to meet goals and drive outcomes while working on multiple priorities in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Deep background in instructional design, development, and facilitation with a focus on leadership development and cultural assimilation.
  • Acute business curiosity and acumen applying critical and creative thinking to bring about a strategic and thoughtful approach to problem solving and decision making.
  • Ability to translate and convey complex information clearly and simply in both written and verbal formats.
The starting salary for this position is $160,000 and will be commensurate with background, experience as well as internal equity.
