POSITION DETAILS

Position Summary

The Director of Manufacturing Engineering is responsible for supervising and leading manufacturing engineers and CNC programmers. This leadership position is responsible for process definition and evolution, as well as investigation and implementation of new manufacturing technologies. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager has direct responsibility overseeing team members responsible for work holding / fixture design, cutting tool selection, tool assembly, machine programming, and supporting other departments. A successful candidate will be a proven leader of people, fostering an environment of continual growth, technical advancement and team member accountability, within a highly dynamic and competitive environment. Candidate must be analytical, observant, focused, and detail orientated. This position is part of the succession plan for Senior Director of Plant Management

Principal Activities
  • Manage Manufacturing Engineers through the preparation of detailed project process plans with estimated project task hours and timelines for development and production component machining. Direct and coordinate engineering resources to complete engineering tasks on time to comply with development and production machining schedules and OEE requirements.
  • Oversee the research and development of new manufacturing equipment / software, processes, policies, standard operating procedures and work instructions. Improve manufacturing processes through review of all engineering deliverables for technical accuracy and adherence to engineering standards and project schedules. Review new product design and work with design engineering to identify areas for improved product manufacturability, reduced manufacturing cost, and improved process reliability.
  • Hire, train and mentor engineers and support staff to work to their full potential. Maintain department quality and performance metrics. Write performance reviews and solve departmental issues.
  • Review and write reports, approve expenditures, enforce rules. Recommend, plan and direct installation of new equipment. Communicate and collaborate with other managers and departments. Prepare and deliver engineering-related presentations as required.
  • Drive and improve services provided from Fastenal and similar vendors.
  • Maintain focus on continual process improvements, cost reductions, and productivity increases across the manufacturing environment.
  • Collaborate in detail with the design engineering team to ensure NPI projects, research projects, and advanced manufacturing needs are addressed prior to requirement dates.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of aerospace industry accepted component design and analysis techniques and industry standards for configuration and document control.

  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize, balance, and manage multiple efforts with strong results/goal orientation.   • MS Office applications
  • Basic knowledge of SolidWorks or Catia CAD, PDM software

Education & Experience
  • 10+ years in engineering with minimum 5+ years of engineering management experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering - Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil or Electrical required
  • Master's Degree in Engineering or MBA is preferred
